A SHORT THREE – DAY REUNION( Ba ngày gặp nhau)

It was at 8:00AM on Saturday 30, May 2020. I was listening to music on the CD player the song “yesterday once more” as usual by Carpenter. I still remember the lyrics clearly “ When I was young, I listen to the radio, waiting for my favorite songs. When they played, I sang alone and it made me smile”. Suddenly, there was a bell ringing from my cellphone. It was the number 035176263. “a strange number” I thought and I intended to ignore it. But I didn’t understand why my pointed-finger did slide on it and I heard the voice from the other end of the line a question “Are you Mr.Thinh? I’m Lot speaking”. I’m really surprised and hilarious because I am going to meet a long lost friend for many years passing by. We had a very short talk on phone and had an appointment at Lu cafeteria on Ly Tu Trong street at 7:30 in the following day. You cannot imagine how excited and joyful I felt. I have been waiting this moment for a long time in my life. I talked to myself “tomorrow will come soon”. However, he made a call to me again at 8.00 PM and said he wanted to meet me soon because he couldn’t constrain himself to see me in person. I agreed but he was impossible to implement it. He found that he needed time to write the rest of the article. So we had to wait for tomorrow morning.

I woke up a little earlier than usual at 6.00 AM on Sunday. “A hot sunshine summer day foreshadowed a good omen”. I thought. I had breakfast then I prepared for the meeting but I received a call from him again saying the campus for coffee should be changed due to the uncomfortable position. He said that we will meet at Ha Noi center cafeteria. It’s an ideal place for us. So I had to change my way on the road to coffee shop.

I did on purpose to arrive there 5 minutes earlier because I wanted to see my friend in person previously. I chose a corner sitting and admiring the whole view of the shop. At 8.00 o’clock sharp, my friend appeared together with the escort. I contemplated my friend entering in the white attire stylized by Chinese style with the white pairs of shoes simulated by Sun Yat-Sen in “Bodyguards and Assassins”. To my big surprise, he hasn’t changed so much as I recognised him easily and so did he. I stood up to greet him and he made a big hand shake to me. Everything occurred smoothly, we had coffee and exchanged the talk for a while. He also invited some old friends for coffee they are Mr. Chau a director, Mr. Lan a teacher of English and Mr.Dan a poet. Everything seems not to change except his voice and his posture. I found out that his speech seemed to be slower, easy to hear and more clearly and so is his gesture-softer, more delicate. I detected the internal force escaped from him. It reminded me of a lyric right for his context of the old days.
Finding a way, seeking a path
day after day many questions occur
lost belief, live for no tomorrow
live without anyone. Just have fun for the whole night.

Then the fun ended, everyone walked away.
I went home alone, thinking all night long
Try to find out my right way to rescue me and all beings.

Time passed by so quickly, it’s time for us to go home. But before coming home, he continued to invite us for a dinner tomorrow at half past five. He suggested me to recommend him a venue. Immediately, I chose a restaurant by the river but at the end, he sent me a text message changing the venue. He preferred to sit at Hanoi center so he booked and ordered the food. When I came everything seemed to be prepared perfectly. I could see many kinds of food arranged on the table including fermented meat (Nem, ché bà Đệ a well-known brand in Danang city), bread, rolling minced meat, mango, medication wine and beer.

Everyone was present at the small party, but we hadn’t begun the party on time because of waiting for a new person- his childhood friend Mr.Tuan a businessman.
He delivered a small speech before the party, saying thank you for our attendance, especially for welcoming him home after nearly 30 years passing by. We began to eat, to drink, to talk and to exchange with each other about the stories in the past. The atmosphere was very cosy in harmony with delicious food, precious wine and pure friendship. Sometimes, we burst into laugh because of the jokes. I wish this moment will last forever. He gave us each person an abstract book on his research with title a new study on treating depression by practicing Yoga.
Looking at his book with the depth of 500 pages, a massive works and his card-visit entitled Thinley Nguyen Thanh the director of Thanh tri institute for psychology research and yoga application, I actually admired and adored him a person with extraordinary energy. He said to me in fact, he had got more than 240 articles published indoors and outdoors. Everybody stared at him with big open eyes then uttered “What an extraordinary guy”.
Mr.Dan chanted the poems, Mr.Lan sang some songs, Mr. Chau retold the stories, Mr.Thinh conveyed philosophy on life. All seemed to merge in time of condensation with good wine and gentle friends. Here is my philosophy.
Unity is strength
Where there is a will, there is a way

Mr. LOT didn’t want to say goodbye to us soon but the fun then will be ended. Everybody went home. Only me still remained. He said I give you the right to get access to my website and able to read all my works. Especially I recommend you to read my works “one life, one mantra”

“one life, one mantra”

I met him on Wednesday for coffee at Hanoi center again.
Mr. Mat Nhi Khang was so helpful to me. Thanks to his conscientious assistance, I can get access to his his researches and articles
I commenced to read one life, one mantra written by Thinley Nguyen Thanh. I discovered many things related to our love divine such as
Love itself doesn’t have power, but it can create strength
If thee sincerely practice the Dhamma, the food and other necessities will come to thou naturally. (Atisha)

I gradually understand that we need at least a mantra in our life. Through his point of view, I enlightened and grasped that mantra isn’t a miracle, but it can make a credit of essence, help us receive joy and be able to avoid suffering. I am immensely impressed by the meaning and monumental aspects of the Mani mantra OM MANI PADME HUM. It looks like a brightly colorful gem. The more I practice, the better I feel.

Believe in me, because I am the path, the truth and the life. For those who follow me, they will be immortal (Jesus).
Two days ago, I accidentally met a friend of mine living and working in Hue city. I knew that he is a buddhist, so I asked if if he knows something about the mantra OM MANI PADME HUM. To my big surprise, he told me the experience he had ever been spending since he was young. He told that to come to his house, he had to go past the big cemetery in his village. Every time when he went past there late at night, he always felt fear, an invisible one running along his spine, remembering the Buddha’s teaching. He began to grasp tightly two hands to make two firm fists then recite the mantra um ma ni ba di hong 10 times and the result was that the fear disappeared, he felt more confident and went home save and sound.
To summarize this writing, I would like to read an instruction that I still remember.
You must remember this
A kiss is just an emotion
A sigh is just a sound
But a mantra is an echo in your mind
The fundamental thing applies as time goes by.

    Dear Mr.Thinh,
I am very happy to read your very first article on chanhtuduy.com. I luckily have heard about you ( one of our Guru’s old friends) as precious friendship of Guru in the past, and now your sharing helps me to experience his sharing more clearly. I remember Guru has taught: “A good friend is the person keeps the same attitude to you in every situations.” I find it is totally true when see you here.

  9. Dr C H Lakshminarayan says:

I bow my head at the lotus feet of Guru.

Three points which impressed me in this article written by Mr. Thinh are :

    * The immense and immeasurable joy and depth of inner feelings of true friendship and feeling of oneness when old friends meet after a period of 20  or 30 years just like birds of the same flock together, will spring like a fountain from the bottom of their heart.! Although wrinkles peep here and there on their faces and skin, their enthusiastic energy of  youth still persists when they raise their voice and exchange their views and experiences of past life thrilling the co- friends sitting around the round table !

    * The second point impressed me is the quote Mr. Thinh  quoted from Jesus, ” I am the path, the truth, the life. For those who follow me, they will be immortal” !

At this juncture, I can boldly say, the only man who can dare say like that by virtue of his Spiritual strength is our Guru, Thinlay Nguyen Thanh!. May be it is very difficult to search an another man who has guts to say like that as my conscious says.! That is why his old friends  called our Guru as an extraordinary guy  after hearing his adventures in the Spiritual field and psychological research in pure mind yoga!

With kind permission of the writer, I re- write the poem mentioned in the end for my satisfaction as follows :

A kiss is just an emotion of love

A sigh is just an expression of grief

But a Mantra is medicinal pill for liberation!

    Sarve janaha Sukhino bhavanthu

May all be Sarva bhootha hithe rathaha

    Om Mani Padme Hum
