FOLLOWING THE BUDDHA’S TEACHING IS TO BUILD HIS STATUE. ( SỐNG THEO LỜI PHẬT DẠY TỨC LÀ DỰNG TƯỢNG NGÀI)

I have received the comment by Jeffrey P. Lumbay from Philippines. Below is his comment.

Dear Guru, I am Jeffrey P. Lumbay of Pagadian City Philippines,

Jeffrey P. Lumbay

I am very move of the Lord Buddha’s life, I saw it in YouTube, but not all.

I tried meditating as he said first to cleans my mind. I really am interested in Buddhism because of my ancestors, I am from the bloofline of the Chola Dynasty, and my Great grand father is Sari Lumay a minor Prince who founded the Rajanate of Cebu. And my Uncle who founded the Rajanate of Butuan Raja Kulambo also from India. The Rajanate of Cebu was abolished by the Spaniards in 1565. But before that in 1521, The Spaniards baptized my great grandfather Raja Humabon to Christianity. It was the reign of Rajah Tupas that the Spaniards abolished monarchy and make OPHIR change it name to Philippines in honor of their king.

Jeffrey P. Lumbay

Dearest Guru, I want to restore the legacy of my great ancestors by erecting a shrine to Lord Buddha, allowing all Indian National living in Pagadian to have a place of prayer.

Also I want to teach my members also the teachings of Buddha.

Dearest Guru please pray for my plan to erect the first Buddha

Shrine of Pagadian.

But I can’t find a store here selling Buddha image and a book ab

About his life.

I have no ideas and no comment about your plan. In term of Buddha’s statue, I would like to share with you a short story I happened to know in Danang on my long-distance trip nation-wide. Here is the article “Buddha is not Buddha”

A long distance trip 4: BUDDHA IS NOT BUDDHA

There is Art stone’s village in the Đà Nẵng city. It was build around 1000 years ago. Here there are many fine art stone’s shops. Every passing customer is invited to buy things. Here it is Buddha’s village so there are many Buddha’s statues which is sold everywhere, even on each street. It so much to name’s street makes by stone.  The people live they by making sculptures, selling statues and stone handicrafts. Sometime, the trucks come to the cargo. The scene looks busy and noise. I think that this time will pass, life and death are impermanent so this time I want to come there after a long time. When my car have arrived the woman called and showed me a parking. She wanted us to buy stone crafts in her shop. I agreed and got buying tickets to do sightseeing.

Art stone’s village in the Đà Nẵng city

It is a mountain range with many caves and temples  I was walking up the stairs, and was recalling the old memories when here I often went with my mother. The stone steps are there and my mother is gone. My mother followed Buddhism so she usually got me to pagodas when I was very young. At the time I didn’t understand what is Buddhism, what is right view, what does follower according orbit Dharma. Here the monk taught us to bow to Buddha’s statues. Then I and my mother often prayed and asked for everything but they didn’t with us. That’s because I didn’t believe in Buddha. Now I feel shame about this memory!

I was walking up the stairs, and was recalling the old memories

I realize that Buddha’s statues made of copper, cement or plaster, how can they help you? They can’t know, can’t understand, can’t hear you, how can they fulfill your wishes? No, never! Why there are many Buddha’s statues in temples? Now I’ll explain it to you in order.

1/ The Buddha’s statue reminds you to the right path to Enlightenment, no another way

2/ The Buddha’s statue reminds you of your wish to attain Liberation

3/ The Buddha’s statue reminds you about noble qualities are renunciation, bodhicitta and sunyata (emptiness)

4/ The Buddha’s statue is object of visualization meditation to start going to Sunyata

In short, Buddha’s statue is not human, deva (God)  who can’t help you in everything, by everything, let alone it. Buddha’s statue is not Buddha, it is expediency to attain ultimate purpose, you won’t be confused copper with gold.

Buddha’s statue is not human, deva (God)  who can’t help you in everything, by everything,

After visiting tourist attraction we have inquired about Master Huệ Nghĩa’s health and offered him. It was quite dark when I got hotel.  A nice day will be to me tomorrow, I hope so!

May all sentient beings attain the happiness of Buddha’s nature.

May the pure fragrance of Thanh Tri Yoga pervade every direction

May Covid 19 pandemic will be end soon.

From the story, we can clearly recognize that building the Buddha’s statue in mind is much more important than building a cement object. Because the Buddha’s statue made by cement  cannot help you get enlightenment. Only Buddha’s teachings is able to assist you to achieve the goal of true happiness and ultimate liberation and benefit other people.

We, Song Nguyen Tantra House, have been helping people all over the world (in about 164 countries) to build the Buddha’s statue in mind by reading Buddha’s teaching, contemplating his words, write comments and practicing six spiritual methods invented by me, based on the core teachings of Buddha, which they are:

1, Eight Dharma methods of taking refuge in The Three Jewels

2, Uninterrupted Offerings

3, Samayagdrsti-PrahaSamadhi

4, Lotus Walking Darani

5, Meditation on Bodhichitta

6, Five stages of Chenrezig meditation and Dharani

Thanks to practicing these methods diligently, learners and disciples all over the world get inner happiness, success in society and spiritual achievement. Their stories are public on chanhtuduy.com.

After Covid 19, you can go to Tantra House to learn more about these methods.

May all sentient beings attain the happiness of Buddha’s nature.

May Covid 19 pandemic end soon.

Om mani padme hum.

    Hi Jeffrey,

I’m delighted that you have met Guru through chanhtuduy.com and was accepted to be a learner. When I first read your wish of erecting a Buddha statue in a comment, I remembered straight away this article from Guru, which Guru has quoted above. I very much appreciated Guru’s teaching to us better to build a statue of the Buddha in our mind than building a cement object. In other words, a Buddha statue is only a means to support us on the path to the ultimate purpose of enlightenment, not a “blessing object” itself, as explaining in the article by Guru. We, the learners and disciples of Guru from all over the world, have been building our own Buddha statute in ourselves by reading and commenting on chanhtuduy.com day by day. What is the Buddha statue in our mind? That’s our firm belief in Guru, Buddha, Dharma and Sangha, and the path to enlightenment that Guru’s guiding us (by the six spiritual methods invented by Guru). That’s the right view from the Buddha’s and the Buddhist Sages’ teachings written in many “life is Dharma, Dharma is life” lessons by Guru, which inspire us a lot. From the flatform of the right view, we have the right understanding, which then leads to the right behaviour for the sake of ourselves and the other sentient beings, so that we can accumulate both merit and wisdom to attain enlightenment.

I hope to read more comments from you to share with us about your journey of building the Buddha statue in mind. May your righteous wishes be fulfilled.

Thank you Guru for teaching us, guiding us to build our own Buddha statue in our mind by your six spiritual inventions. It’s also surprised me to read your beautiful English article promptly reply to foreign learners. So please let me show my admiration for your effort, your Bodhhicita and your wisdom.

May Guru have good health and logevity for the benefit of all sentient beings.
May all sentient beings attain the happiness of the Buddha’s nature.
    May Covid-19 pandemic end soon.

So far, we start the way to the path of enlightenment by the six spiritual methods invented by Guru, and also apply this with “Life is Dharma, Dharma is Life”. Not only that for me, Guru is my admiration, my motivation for effort in life. I am grateful Guru and thank Guru with bodhicitta and wisdom.

  17. Mật Tấn Khải
    Mật Tấn Khải says:

    Dear Guru!

    I have read this article.

Through the article, I understand that Buddha today is misunderstood too much. He once declared: “I have no right to bless or harm anyone” but now Buddhists pray to Buddha for all kinds of things. Buddha gives this child, gives that child, if the Buddha can give it, don’t talk about cause and effect. We do good causes, we get good results, if we create bad causes, we suffer bad results, that’s our right, not Buddha’s. For Buddhism, considering the dharmas in this world as impermanent, without leaving those impermanent material images, it’s a waste of money, human sweat and tears, Buddhism is only left for humans. . “A noble and ethical soul does not cause suffering to oneself, to others, to all sentient beings” The lay disciple of the Buddha always had to live and work with the spirit of morality and cause and effect. To get rid of the sufferings of yourself and others, you don’t need a big temple, big Buddha statue, beautiful scenery, leisurely atmosphere, etc. Just have CAUSE – the true cause and effect of the religion. Buddha, then Buddhism is still as bright as the light in this world forever and ever.
Nowadays, it is said that there are many people studying Buddhism, but in reality there are absolutely no people who actually study Buddhism. Reading and re-reading a few sutras every day, reciting Buddha’s name a little, this is not studying Buddhism. The Buddha’s will, the Buddha’s way of being a human being is still unknown, so how can we say that we can study Buddhism? Buddha mind is pure mind, equanimity mind, enlightened mind. In the “Sutra of Infinite Life” it is said “Purity, equality, enlightenment”. Do we study or not? Is our mind pure or not? Buddhism was invented by people to serve people. Buddhism takes people as the root. The human spirit of Buddhism is not only expressed in Buddhist teachings but also in attitudes and ways of doing things

Buddhist actions. Consider India as an example of belief and superstition. Understanding what we do is righteous. Doing things you don’t understand is called superstition. In short, don’t put your life in the dark. Be diligent in doing good deeds, promoting your own capacity and living with wisdom, all suffering will be resolved, balanced, and peaceful!
We need to rely on the Guru until we attain Enlightenment; therefore, one has to rely on one’s own holy Guru. Until we fully understand Void’s selflessness, we still need to practice listening to the Buddhadharma; Therefore, we must listen carefully to the teachings of the guru and apply them to our daily lives.

The Flower Adornment Sutra states: “Need to find the intellectual level (Teacher), body and mind should not be tired; see Knowledge erudition does not give rise to discouragement; learn with erudite wisdom, not afraid of hardship; close to knowledge Wisdom does not back down; Do not interrupt the offering of wisdom; follow the teachings of wise wisdom, not against the contrary; the merit of discerning wisdom, do not doubt; when the erudite mind speaks, must decide to open the mind to listen; When people see that wisdom and knowledge are both afflicted, don’t give birth to malice.”
I sincerely pray for the health and longevity of the Guru for the benefit of all sentient beings.
May all sentient beings find True refuge, attain the happiness of Buddha nature.
Pray that the covid 19 pandemic will soon be destroyed.
    Om mani padme hum!

    Dear Holy Guru,
I have diligently read ‘Followibg Buddha’s Teaching Is To Build His Temple’s
It is instructive to note your visit to the village where the peoy’s occupation is essentially making Stone, cement and plaster statues of various sizes of the Buddha.I absorbed your note that, among other things, the Buddha Statue is not Buddha,is not a human being,is not a God.Nevertheless,it reminds of the Great Buddha,it reminds us of the right path to Enlightenment,t liberation. It provides us with visualization to start going to Sunyata, leads us to right renunciation of buddhichitta,it directs our attention towards the attainment of the ultimate purpose..In the paper you directed attention to the innovations of the Tantra House including the method of Lotus Walking, the methods of meditating on Bodhichitta .
The paper takes us miles forward in our understanding of Buddhism.I am most grateful to the Guru as I bow to his Lotus Feet.
May the Holy Guru live in excellent health coupled with Long Life.

    Truly appreciate this article.

I found it very timely as I just had a conversation with a friend regarding the Buddha statue in my home. I explained how the statue was a constant reminder, to me, of the Buddha’s teachings and a reminder that we each contain the Buddha’s nature within us.

Praise for the three jewels! Praise for our Guru and his teachings!

  20. Dhan Singh Ravi says:

    Dear Holy Guru,
Thanks a lot for sharing this valuable and didactic article. Of course, Buddha’s teaching is more important than the statue. But I think Buddha’s statue is just a symbol. To have Buddha’s statue in our home as symbol is good as we see in Maha Bodhi Temple Bodhagaya in India.
Dear Holy Guru, I pray for your good health and long life for the benefits of all sentient beings

  21. Jeffrey Lumbay says:

Thank you dear Guru for the article, I now understand that to be a perfect disciple of Buddha is to live like Buddha, like building a Buddha in ourselves, that the principles of Buddha teachings are more practiced. What is the use of many temples and Buddha images if the teaching of Buddha is not practiced and lived. A Buddhist must be seen as the living representation of Buddha to encourage others to be free from the pain this life and to be free from being slaves to self.

The Temples and Images of Buddha is our guide to the path of Enlightenment, its like a charger of a mobile phone.

    • Nguyên Thành
      Nguyên Thành says:

That all right! Statue is symbol, reminds us practice Dharma. Statue is not useful if we have a wrong view. We must have a right view. It is more important than build statue. I am agree with you that “What is the use of many temples and Buddha images if the teaching of Buddha is not practiced and lived”. Your comment is meaningful!

  22. Cao Diệu Nhất Nguyên says:

    Dear Holy Guru,

Your teaching has fundamentally changed my life. Worshiping the Buddha’s statue has no meaning if I have wrong views. Therefore I need right views. When I was younger, I have looked at the Buddha’s statues and pray for self-interested wishes. But now I can remember that:

1/ The Buddha’s statue reminds you to the right path to Enlightenment, no another way

2/ The Buddha’s statue reminds you of your wish to attain Liberation

3/ The Buddha’s statue reminds you about noble qualities are renunciation, bodhicitta and sunyata (emptiness)

4/ The Buddha’s statue is object of visualization meditation to start going to Sunyata

Thank you for the profound teaching. May the Guru have good health and longevity for the benefit of all sentient beings.

    Dear Guru!
    I have read this article.
I thank Guru so much for giving us valuable instructions. Through this article, I understand that the Buddha statues are inanimate. The Buddha statue is only a means to remind us of the right path to Enlightenment, to remind us of our wish to attain Liberation, to remind us of noble qualities : renunciation, bodhicitta and sunyata. The Buddha statue is object of visualization meditation to start going to Sunyata.
Through this article, I understand that we shouldn’t attach importance to casting the outside Buddha statue, but more importantly build the statue inside your mind. The outside Buddha statue is built with raw elements, so it will degrade over time. The Buddha statue inside is “built” with quintessential elements, so it will last forever.
I thank Guru so much for teaching us.
May Guru have good health and live long for the sake of sentient beings.

    Dear Guru,

I am grateful to read your beneficial English article. I keep in my mind your teaching of “following the Buddha’s teaching is to build his statue”. Buddha’s statue is not Buddha, it is just the symbol reminding us about dharma practicing – following Buddha’s teaching to start and move forward on the path leads to enlightenment. Worshiping Buddha’s statue means nothing if we do not have right view. We, learners and disciples at Song Nguyen Tantra House, are so lucky to meet and follow Guru who helps us to be fully equipped with right view day by day, who guides us right methods to follow Buddha’s teaching through the Six Marvellous Spiritiual Inventions. Thanks to Guru, we understand the real meaning and build our own Buddha’s statues in mind, giving us chances to attain the true happiness in this life and the ultimate bliss in next life.
