LAMA NYIMA SANGPO PRESENTS SOME VIEWPOINTS ABOUT VEGETARIAN AND NON-VEGETARIAN (Lạt ma Nyima Sangpo bày tỏ quan kiến về chay và mặn)

Dear Guru would I like to write  something about Buddhism. Wisdom  is the most important  thing

Vegetarian and non vegetarian does not effect on the path of   liberation .

Lotus Flower Estrade in Song Nguyen Tantra House

Non vegetarian :- This is our own  whis  to eat meat  or not because this is not write  in our  book but  we have to eat also  did not write  This is our own understanding   we have to tell  once about Meat  that not to eat. If we eat meat  we should have that power to send his  soul  into heven. Butt if we can’tdo this  also  we have do for his wisdom and should pray for him.  We monks  live in monastery  some of they eat and some of they  not why because  that is our own understanding  like I said . As a Buddhist ,I think we should  focus on practicing Dharma to get the wisdom for unlimite liberation. As Buddha said in Sutra of the eight realization of great being the third realization  . The mind is insatiable,  Always seeking thirsty for more ,this increasing our sins boddhisttavas  renounce such  conduct always remember to follow the way . Be content and  peace with poverty  with wisdom and the soul vocation and  right view supports wisdom .when practicing the right view a precatictitioner  get wisdom.  The lord Buddha paid attention to the important role right view as follows  .when a person has right view right knowledge  right realese what ever bodily deeds  he undertakes  in line with  that  whatever verbel deeds whatever mental deeds  he undertakes line with that view  whatever intention whatever vows whatever determination whatever  fabrication all lead towhat is agreeable ,pleasing charming, profitable and easeful .why is that? Because the view of auspicious.just when a sugarcane seed ,rice grain,or a graped  seeds is placed in the moist soil  whatever nutriment it takes from the soil & water all condices sweetness tastiness &unalloyed delectablely. Why is that?  Because the seeds of ausipious.  In the same way when a person have the right view ,right release with whatever bodily  he under takes  in line with that view  whatever verbal deeds whatever mental deeds  he undertakes the line with that view whatever intention whatever vows  whatever determination   whatever fabrication  a lead is what to agreeable, pleasing, charming, profitable, and easeful  why is that? Because  the view is auspicious .

Vegetarian :- Vegetarian is a kind of food.if we only  like   we can eat  but eating vegetarian it’s not  kind of  practiceing Buddhism

“Kính bạch Thầy!

Song Nguyen Tantra House at night

Nam Mô A DI ĐÀ PHẬT!

  2. Dear Nyima Sangpo

I really rejoice your viewpoint about vegetarian and non-vegetarian. We all know Buddhism lays emphasis on mind training, taking wisdom as the main cause of practitioner, not on what we eat and which clothes we wear. It’s right for having vegetarian diet because of health condition but it will become unreasonable to take it as a criteria to judge the virtue of others. In the Eight Realizations of the Great Beings, the Buddha taught “be simple with food, with seat, drug and resting place”, meaning we eat or do something without any discrimination or attachment. These are the virtues of a Buddhist practitioner. As we are walking on the path of Bodhisattva, the attachment to food will be a big hurdle for ourselves as well as in guiding sentient beings to enter the door of holy Dharma. Thank you for sharing this meaningful thought.

May our Guru and his consort live long for the sake of sentient beings

May all sentient beings be free from attachment and delusion

Respected Guruji I bow my head at the lotus feet of Guruji.

    I am Tantra Nirvadeva.

IN this article, the words like “heaven ” and “soul” have peeped in. is there any thing like heaven  or soul in Buddhist philosophy?

I am of the opinion we should not protect ourselves for what we do giving some explanation, telling it is immaterial whether we eat meat or not  for practicing Dharma ! Instead we should try to reform ourselves by transforming our diet style to that of Vegetarian if possible !

In my opinion, eating meat is definitely not good because  to eat meat we have to kill an animal ( by our selves or by some body) to obtain meat from that living being ( I think no body will eat the meat of the dead body exception being some uncivilised tribals of some countries !). No body has the right to  kill any animal, since the life of an animal is as precious as that of Human beings from the point of view of Equanimity !. They have got every right to live in this world like men !

Moreover, it is very important to note that killing a living being is AGAINST  BUDDHISM ! On the contrary, I would suggest all the Buddhists to transform and change their diet style to vegetarian ,if possible !

Looking from a different angle, from the health point of view, meat though rich in protein,is not so highly recommended since at the time of killing an animal for meat by shock more adrenaline and noradrenaline hormones are released in the victim and  present in high quantity in the meat which o on consuming it may rise the blood pressure more than normal adding to the detriment of health!

Considering all the above points, I disagree with the opinion of my Kalyanamithra,Nyima Sangpo that eating vegetarian is not kind of practicing Buddhism !.On the contrary, definitely, I consider adopting to vegetarian style of  diet is part of practicing Buddhism and Dharma !

Of course, opinion some time differ in some Buddhist scholars too ! The subject is left to one’s rational , power of thinking and state of mind too !

    Om Mani Padme Hum.

Long live our Guruji for upholding Dharma.

  4. Dear Nyima Sanpo

I am elated by your article.

The Buddha did not teach Practitioner eat what he taught how to eat. If vegetarianism is enlightened then perhaps animals will quickly enlighten. Therefore, practitioners should focus on deepening their minds rather than on eating. Those who practice deep dharma and wisdom first is the right view of the Buddha. Long Tho Bodhisattva affirmed: “Follow right view if you want to go higher. All acts of the body, speed and mind are even considered as meritorious activities but under wrong view will lead to severe consequences” (Letter to the King).

I hope you will read more articles on Chanhtuduy.com and share your thoughs with us.

I am elated by Mat Dieu Hang’s translation, too.

May all sentient beings drink Buddha’s water. Om Ah Hum!

  5. Nyima Sangpo says:

Dear Guru thank you so much for your kindness

  6. Dear Nyima Sangpo,

I am delighted reading your sharing. We had been told that a Buddhist practitioner should maintain a vegetarian diet as a must. Then should the Buddhist be a garderer in order to shorten their way to achieve the enlightenement? While the Buddha taught that the Wisdom is the core of a Buddhist cultivation, many of us keep cultivating our habit eating instead of that. Just imagine a person who living all his life eating vegetable or no animal products at all, the only thing that keep moving and changing is his mouth and his stomach but not his mind. As if he forces himself into doing that because of the compassion towards the sentient beings, it is just  a matter of his viewpoint as animal is just a part of the sentient being while we have six realms in the Samsara. By eating vegetable, the vegetarian still murder lots of other kinds such as rodents and small animals who lost their lives during the cultivation. Or else they have to admit that their compassion is not fair towards every sentient being which may call a “biased compassion”. Furthermore, the Buddha has never taught in his teachings about being a vegetarian shall lead to the paths of liberation. The prejudice of eating non-animal products has been going for thousands years in both monks and laymen and obviously acts like a barrier to frozen their way to the liberation. Thanks to our Guru, we have released our tension about what to eat but how we eat. Like you just shared, vegetarian is a kind of food, we can eat it if we want, but it has never been a kind of Buddhism practice.

    Thank you for your sharing.

May all sentient beings be free from all attachments and delusion.

    Om Mani Padme Hum.

  8. Nguyễn Thị Minh Hà says:

    Dear Guru,

I understand that vegetarian is obviously a kind of food, we can enjoy it if we like. However, the practice of eating vegetarian does not in all cases ensure or show that you are following Buddhism. I also see that training our mind to gain wisdom is the core. I agree with Mật Từ that in order to have a harvest for us to get vegetables and cereals… as our food, farmers intentionally or unintentionally killed a lot of small animals such as worms, insects, rodents.
Eating vegetarian or non-vegetarian food is just one aspect, as our Guru taught that the practice of seeing the simplicity in food, seat, drug and resting place is more important. Only eating vegetarian cannot show the inner of a Buddhist practitioner and his path of liberation.

May our Guru and his consort have good health and live a long life for the sake of sentient beings.

May all sentient beings be free from delusion and attachment.

    Om Mani Padme Hum.

  9. Tantramikaya ( Jane) says:
dear holy guru. Thank you for your article about vegetarian or non vegetarian. I have read this article with great interest and would like to express my thoughts about it. I understand that our values do not teach us to kill. No living beings kill, but also plants are full of life. I know there are also cultures that do not have plants that have roots or tubers. For the reason that plants are also living creatures. As I understand, Buddhists are allowed to eat what they want only in moderation. This means to quench hunger and thirst but not to live lavishly. This is also my conviction. In some parts of the world as in some mountains grow only isolated tufts of grass living there yaks. The Buddhists there must feed on the milk and the flesh. In Japan people used to feed themselves fleshless until the atomic bomb contaminated nature. So it always depends on the circumstances. We should not kill that is right. Buddha’s birthday is often served with dumplings filled with mince. Each of us should decide for himself whether he wants to live vegetarian or not vegetarian. I personally prefer vegetables in any form but occasionally I also eat meat as in the form of stuffed pasta. Important is not to be wasteful. Thank you for your article holy Guru. May our Guru life long for the sake of all sentient beings. Om Mani Padme Hum

Respected Guruji, I bow my head at the lotus feet of Guruji.

    I am Tantra Nirvadeva.

l have seen in some parts of countries, some  monks or lamas   consuming sitting in bars alcohol with non vegetarian food in the plates on their tables  ! No doubt Buddha did not teach what to eat  or what not to eat !   The main concentration is towards wisdom  for liberation

Hence , please clarify  taking a small Quantity of alcohol ( as some people are in such habit) does not matter or What ? Since what goes into the body through mouth is not important but what comes out of the mouth (speech) is very important !

    Namo Buddha!

    Dear Nyima Sangpo,

I’m agree with your viewpoints about vegetarian and non-vegetarian. As a Buddhist, we should do what Buddha taught and did. Buddha didn’t have vegetarian diet or teach his disciple must have vegetarian diet. So it’s definitely wrong if anyone supposes that having vegetarian diet is a way of Dharma practicing but not focus on cultivate their minds. Aren’t they practicing the wrong Buddha’s teachings?

    Thank you for your sharing.

May all sentient beings be free from all attachments.

  13. Tantra Amishuta says:
    Dear Holy Guru,

Thank you for sharing this article. It brings to light why we can eat meat and still be Buddhist. I was confused by this but it makes perfect sense in this way. I am grateful for all the food I receive whether it be meat or fruit and veggies. In my country meat is easier to buy and cheaper for those like me who do not have a lot of money. I plan to grow my own veggies this summer and if they grow properly I will can some so I have some during winter months. But this is a choice of expense. I thank you for your lesson and hope that we all see enlightenment in this life time. May you be well for the sake of all sentient beings. Om Mani Padme Hum

  14. Tantra Upatissa says:
Dear Guru thanks for sharing this article.

My understanding is that we should not kill other beings as from deep through their soul cries may turn curses to ourselves.

Eating vegetarian or non-veg is purely one’s own choice. I think we should rely and focus on lifestyle which includes minimal harm to others in the process of survival.

As killing other living beings especially animals may reduce compassion in our heart.

Also the dead animal may try to take revenge with killer in coming births which may be possible., And this cycle of killing each other may continue without an end I feel.

By eating non-veg we may get strength of animals.

But if we try to eat vegetables and green plants they have chances to give us power of nature as we are avoiding killing and generating compassion with other beings.

Like few practitioners recite medicine Buddha mantra and pray whenever they see a sick animal suffering which is most important in path of dharma cultivation.

If we are truly weak and require to eat non-veg for survival in extreme conditions then it can be justified I think, I am not sure.

May Guru live long and protected and get enlightened.

May all beings be free from suffering and get enlightened.

    Om Mani Padme Hum..( )..

  15. Lan Trần says:
    Dear Nyingma Sangpo,

I am very pleased with your article.

Everyday we need food for maintaining this precious human body, no matter what kind of food is provided, vegetarian or salty. The most important is how we apply Buddha’s teachings in daily life to help ourselves enlightened, then bring benefits to others by practising bodhisattva path.

If practitioners just focus on what to eat and consider eating as a method to practise, then they are far way the gate of Darma. Every mahayana Buddhist should keep in mind that the main cause to make is wisdom, and the main path to follow is bodhidcitta. If not, we are fake practitioners.

Thank you for your meaningful topic.

May you get enlightened under Guru’s guidance.

May the Guru and his consort live long for the sake of all sentient beings.

May all beings be free from suffering and its cause.
