Lesson 1: ELEMENTS AND SPIRITUAL ENERGY (Nguyên tố và năng lượng tâm linh)
In letter No.25, gross-subtle elements and pure secret essence were generally described. Elements are often mentioned as something at micro level, just like a molecule of water which is combined by two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom which cannot be seen with our naked eyes, can only be known through statements of chemists. And so, all external manifestations from plants, flowers, rivers, mountains to earth, air, water, space…are gross elements potential of subtle elements which vary at different levels.

THE GROSS ELEMENTS POTENTIAL OF SUBTLE ELEMENTS
Gross elements originated from earth, water, air, and fire are called in Buddhism as “Four Great Elements” (the Buddha did not mention “space” element because it exists as an obvious and inseparable environment for any kinds of elements). All gross elements containing subtle elements that we can see, touch and feel are called, by scientists, substantial elements. For instance, we cannot see Oxygen in the air with our naked eyes but chemists insist on its existence through researches, thus we believe in the existence of this element (this scientific statement can be perceived equivalently as the “Buddha’s teachings” in Buddhism”). The famous Russian chemist Mendeleev is the first one who listed, categorized and demonstrated properties of discovered elements with the invention of the Periodic Table.

It should be stressed that although all species originate from potential of elements, different qualities are caused by the effects of karmic links. Through their sense of feeling, earth-worms are attracted to the earth because in previous lives, they predominantly had the habit of earth’s phenomena. Through their sense of touch, fish are attracted to water because in previous lives, they predominantly had the habit of water’s phenomena. Through their sense of smell, dogs are attracted to air because in previous lives, they predominantly had the habit of air’s phenomena. Through their keen eyesight, vultures are attracted to light because in previous lives, they predominantly had the habit of fire’s phenomena. Through their consciousness, some practitioners are attracted to the substanceless because in previous lives, they predominantly had the habit of space’s phenomena (Teachings by revered Siddha, Lama Thinley Norbu).

If we grasp at substances and our five senses with attachment (i.e abuse but not use), we will suffer. Through attachment to sight, the moth is attracted to fire’s light and dies from its flame; the deer dies from the whistle of the hunter; through attachment to smell, the male praying-mantis dies from being consumed by the female; through attachment to taste, the fish dies from the fisherman’s hook; through attachment to touch, the elephant is attracted to the swamp’s warmth and dies in its mud.

Materialists claim that visible manifestations are what is visible, touchable and sensible (with scientific evidences). They have no faith in previous or after life, citing the physical body will become dust and ashes after death. In Buddhism, they are called the “Nihilist” who tend to attach to gross elements and give prominence to “existentialism”. They, therefore, attach much importance to money and measure personal and social values through material means such as big houses, expensive cars or brand name clothes. These outer elements are closely linked with their subtle ones like power, fame, beauty, financial success which push them to achieve at all costs.
A man has a burning desire to be rich. He is indefatigably absorbed in his business all the time, given “money is God, the motivation for the youth, the health of the elderly, the impetus for fame, the umbrella of protection, the balance of justice..” (a satirical saying in Vietnam). He claims that there’s nothing that can come out of substantial quality of gross elements. He does not believe in the substance-less source of gross elements which is the pure secret essence that I will mention later. From his high perspective of the money value, that man devote all his mind and efforts to get success. There may have alternative outcomes:
1/ He becomes stinking rich but may risk jail if doing illegal business.
2/ He becomes a billionaire but at the same time, he may suffer from diseases, family breakup (adultery, filial impiety).
3/ He cannot get rich for “lacking good fortune” (as defined by Buddhism).
The cause that leads to consequences instead of good results lies in the fact that gross elements may easily run out from over-exploitation, which produces chaos that Buddhism defines as the “imbalance of the four elements”. All conditioned phenomena fall under the rule of impermanence.

THE SUBTLE ELEMENTS INHERENT WITHIN GROSS ELEMENTS
Now come to subtle elements. These elements develop more subtle to essential level in the category of feeling, emotion or psychology. Now they are no longer called “element” but “factor” though both of these words share similar meaning. Negative emotions such as greed, hatred, ignorance, arrogance and jealousy; or positive ones like generosity, diligence, determination and equanimity always exist in our physical body. Such subtle elements have no form for regularly changing upon external conditions and mind which is called impermanence. We cannot tell what form the greed has, what color the hatred is or what nuance the ignorance bears because these emotions are formless though sensible. The existing greed gives space to jealousy and so on, thus these factors (Five Mind King and 51 mental factors) always rotate in the mind and body. Five Mind King (Cittaraja) include eye consciousness, ear consciousness, nose consciousness, body consciousness and mental consciousness. Fifty one mental factors or concomitants (Cetasika) include five omnipresent (Sarvatraga), five determinative (Viniyata), 11 virtuous (kusala), 6 root afflictions (mulaklesa), 20 secondary afflictions (upaklesa), and 4 indeterminate (aniyata) which appear in rotation within one’s mind.

Likewise, we cannot describe the “appearance” of the Brahmalokas (benevolence, pity, joy and indifference). However, subtle elements are inherent within the gross ones and also change unpredictably. For instance, when people smile, their upwards-turned mouths express the gross external elements, reflecting the subtle positive happiness within. When people glare, their wrinkled foreheads express through the gross external elements, reflecting the subtle negative anger within. Sometimes, the subtle elements of glaring are not negative, just like the parents who are angry with bad actions of their child and want to teach him how to behave. In Tantrayana, it is called the wrathful means of the Gurus to teach their disciples and straighten them out for the benefit of their cultivation. These subtle factors vary at different levels, depending on the expression of each being or each species.

Idealist tradition often falls on subtle elements (factors) which Buddhism calls “Attachment on Eternalism”. They believe in an immortal deity without beginning or end whose infinite subtle qualities are the source of the gross substance elements. They claim that by praying to that immortal deity, they will gain benefits in present life and be reborn in his “eternal land” after death! Therefore, eternalists worship deities who appeared on the earth since the primeval times, believing it a way to benefit all beings. That’s the perspective from their “Attachment on Eternalism” but what is the reality?

In the mankind’s history, those “attached to eternalism” or eternalists were afraid of anyone who sought the subtle substance source of all phenomena. This is the reason why Vatican formed the Inquisition (a church-court based on Roman law) which had sentenced to death thousands of people who had no faith in the source of God, including many scientists. Other non-Buddhist sects rely on subtle elements which are inherent within the gross ones such as faith, devotion, and non-verbal obedience to the sect’s leader but they contradict themselves by denying the value of gross elements. For example, churches assert that God pervades the whole universe but they still force followers “not to abandon Sunday”, which means they must go to church on the seventh day of the week (Sunday). They consider charity activities like donation of food and medicines or healthcare for the disadvantaged as a way to fortify and increase their faith by relying on gross elements. This faith, however, is the subtle element with which they inferably label substance-less qualities.

However, external conditions being exhausted, suppressed or over exploited will produce a disturbance among subtle internal elements. Vice versa, the over-reliance on gross external elements by subtle internal elements will make the mind become weak and easily influenceable. This is an imbalance between gross and subtle elements within an entity. For a person, this imbalance causes a mental disorder majorly emanated from desire (but unreachable), competition (for gain or lose) or efforts without a lofty goal (for fame or shame or praise-blame).
Whatever source it may come, this turbulence will surely lay bad effects on the neural, arterial and aspiratory systems. Then we have to rely on gross external elements like medicines, environment, weather or climate. Notably, this is the time when we easily fall into delusion because our mind has become chaotic, like an intensely thirsty man being hallucinated by the desert heat. Once subtle internal elements are in turbidity, actions of body, speech and mind become out of control, which can be realized through following expressions: have butterflies in stomach; break teapot or cups or cut oneself on doing kitchen work; tend to stumble easily; be heavy-hearted in the crowd; talk indiscreetly; sleepless; the mind is constantly churned by gales of delusive thought.
Pure secret essence is permanent, immutable and is the source of eternity. One is All and All converge in One.
Finally is the pure secret essence. This is a superior characteristic of Buddhism that lies beyond the reach of heresies. It is called the Wisdom Mind (Buddha mind, Buddha nature, Suchness…). Any one or religion that depends on gross elements (visible, touchable, and sensible) will not long last because they are impermanent and quickly exhausted. Also it is unstable to rely on subtle elements which mainly depend on the mind that is different in each species and fluctuates every now and then. That’s why the best and absolute reliance is on pure secret essence. Pure essence is permanent, immutable and is the source of eternity. One is All and All converge in One.

This article is a bit difficult to understand by me because of the usage of words ‘ gross ‘ and ‘ subtle’ which confused me.!
I wonder who has seen the previous lives of earthworm, fish, dog etc.and their attachment to their senses of touch, smell, and eyesight etc in their previous lives ?
No doubt we suffer if we are attached to the senses ,as a result of abuse of them.! That is the reason, why many great sages and rishis live in a secluded mountain area, most of the time meditating with closed eyes away from people’s contact to be free from attachment and attractions.! Buddha is the best example for this! He Renunciated all worldly pleasures and went to the forest area and meditated in a secluded place till he attained Enlightenment.
Positive and negative feelings are present in our physical body depending upon how our mind think and so action follows as per the cause and effect!. Emotions are formless though sensible as they originated from mind. All phenomena are of dependent origin and interdependent as is the basic principle of Buddhism wether they are gross or subtle in Nature ultimately ending in Emptiness ( shunyatha).!

My greetings to the holy guruThank you for sharing your wonderful points of view. It has been so clear that many individuals had been cling to attaching themselves to the desire that they thought keeps them going in life. The sad thing came in when this individual lose the real essence of their existence. That they tend not to realize that above all those material things that they’d been longing to have in their possession, there is one most important that makes them exist to be a better one, peace of mind.I am not in a position to tell that all individuals who happened to wish to have a better status in life will fall into being obsessed into what they are longing to have. Everyone has a dream, all have their wishes that they wanted to fulfill once in their life. That, I am honestly one among those. When I started my college, what first comes to my mind then is to take a profession that could lead me to be functional in this world. Medicine was my first choice. But there are so many factors that made me think of its possibility. First, expensive. My family has not much to finance me to finish that course. During that time, one of my sibling hasn’t been done yet for her dentistry course. It would be a very tough thing to pursue my chosen field. Second, my eldest sister discourage me to do for some reason that I know it is indeed considerable. It is a tough course, aside from being expensive. As a result, I started my college days with uncomfortable feeling due to my unchosen course, BS commerce, major in accounting. For the first semester, I took the longest season ever in my life as a student, I think. There was never been a day that I was comfortable. All throughout the days, we seated talking and computing about money. Millions, thousands, brain storming. Luckily, on the second semester I was able to transfer into another school, with the course that my second sibling chose me to take. BS Physical Therapy. During that time, honestly, I never knew what it is and how is it all about. But I found myself getting eased with the subjects. Human anatomy, physics, most are like medicine topics. I enjoyed it. For months, years and more years passed, I was on that field getting good on my grades. Not the high, though. But I am making my quizzes fine. It was only then during my internship that I found out what is all about physical therapy. I felt gladness within because it is a profession wherein you can get closer to people who are in need of a hand in making their physical fitness be better. Rehabilitating individuals to have them be functional and take their utmost capability to be in life again, after an uncertain situations that happened to them.This is the time when I started to hear my schoolmates, including my professors, of course, that this is a course that could lead you to have a lot of money. Just be focus on it, then after having the license, take a step out from the country and work in some foreign countries where they can offer you a huge amount of cash that could make you become rich and sustainable on all your wants. Well, if not all, I guess most of the students settled their thinking that way, money and richness. In some points, I was on that thinking too. Who else haven’t dreamed of a huge house wherein you can settle your family comfortably, having a nice car where you can roam all over the country side, or much money where in you are capable to travel the world. The only thing that I need to do then is to finish my studies, have a license and find an employer outside my country to hire me and give me all those chances. Too good to be true, wonderful to think. After my graduation, reality came in, but not on how I thought it would be. Tough moments came in. I had taken my licensure exam with toughed chances. I failed three times. And it wasn’t that easy really on my fourth time of taking it, but I did passed. Then my application got started the soonest that I got my license locally. United States of America has been my focused. I was then in a government hospital during that time while taking chances to get hired. I worked in the establishment for almost 10 years being uncompensated. I was enjoying then somehow, though no wage, no pay slip. Giving my service to the military free of charge because we are not yet given a slot on the department. The office knows how these people need our service to them but they seem not to care anyway. We only got some pennies from few kind hearted military officials, if they are so. But so rare. Even though, my co-workers on the clinic still make things well, we keep on pursuing the dream of getting the chance that someday we’ll be working in abroad for a better status and having a better payment to make us better. As years passed, most of my colleagues were given the chance. I am happy for them though. Because as of now, I can see how they are making their lives so comfortable with their family. For almost 5 years now, I’ve been discharge from the clinic. This is due to some reasons that is not justifiable to think. When the time came in wherein we will be given the position to be hired, they fill up the slot with somebody who seem to be closed to a high ranked military officer. I was supposed to take the supervisory position then. As a choice, me and most of my co-workers chose to withdrawn from the office. Some of us took a chance to teach in school, others went to another field, some put up their own clinics, and I made my self work in a home care service. Still, I have an unstable income. I’m still trying to struggle for my maintenance. I went to areas from time to time to treat patients, that is, only if there is someone who’s going to call you. Sustainability isn’t an assurance.All along the struggles that I am in after my clinician years, I came to a point of realizing that there is something I can do to others despite of my shortage. There was some times when I am thinking and trying to recall that I made a different in some lives. Yet, I haven’t tasted the luxury of having a huge house where my family can stay. But I see myself with 3 kittens and 2 cats having been well relaxed and made me smile from time to time. I lay my back every night in a bed situated in a room with a size of 5 feet by 7 without an aircondition and nice expensive lamp and yet be able to rise up on the following morning. I haven’t tried to ride in a Ford mustang GT yet, but I was able to mobilize myself into where a patient lies and be able to treat them. I haven’t got the chance to have a rich wallet yet and good dollars but still I am a physical therapist and make a stroke patient walk and catch up his functional level of expectations. I can still reach out people who need to be touch and share a moment with them. Though, life isn’t that much easy, I can see myself still existing.Just not that long ago, I happened to join an organization wherein we go to different areas of our country to give awareness for people for the service of physical therapist. This is to say that we are going to render services in an isolated areas wherein far from the cities and rarely can be reach by health services. As for now, we are not yet reach the core of completely implementing it since there are still some processes needed to get through. These includes some goverment offices where we need to get collaborated for the legality of the system. It may still take some time to be established but I hope things will go out well for the sake of those people living in an isolated communities who are longing to be touched.My early dreams as a youngster still remain. But for now I think it has been modified. To have a better status still in my nerves but not to be inclined with the material things that I used to dreamed of. It is much more now of being someone who exist with a purpose. Money is a medium that I think everyone must accept that should be a part of our living, for us to be mobilized. But we have to be careful enough not to be submissive on it. We have to be known by others for us to now our belonging into a community or for being us to be a part of the world, but no need to seek fame to be honored and recognized well, up to the point of being ahead from the others. If we were given the chance to have a material things like cars, houses, richness, just to name a few, make use of them to touch other’s lives to let them know the beauty of life. Share what you have. Kindness is the most powerful tool that binds people together stay in peace and blossom the essence of love and respect for each other. In times, you don’t need to be professional to share it, no need to be rich to exercise it. It is free anyway. The access of its existence is within anyone’s reach no matter where you are. For me, it is my regret not to now the theoretical definition of kindness in school. Coz all throughout, what I got in mind is to finish a college degree and be rich with money. Sad for me. Yet, for now, I’m still out from the status that I was looking for, for too long. But slowly I have come to realize that money isn’t the only thing that makes you rich. Material things isn’t the only matters that makes you functional either. Feel yourself, have the passion to help others in ways that you can. That should be the attachment that everyone must cling to…to help and be kind to others.

Con cảm tạ ơn Thầy cho con được đọc một bài viết tuyệt vời này. Rõ ràng là chúng sanh bám chấp vào những mong cầu của bản thân và luôn nghĩ rằng những gì mình đang có sẽ tồn tại mãi mãi. Điều đáng buồn là họ không hiểu được ý nghĩa thực sự của cuộc sống. Họ thường không nhận ra một điều rằng trên tất cả những của cải vật chất mà họ mong muốn có được trong đời này, điều quan trọng nhất chính là có một cuộc đời an lạc, bình an nơi tâm . Con không dám nói rằng tất cả những người có địa vị trong xã hội sẽ rơi vào việc bám chấp vào những gì họ đã có. Con người ai cũng có ước mơ và họ đều mong muốn những ước mơ của mình được thành hiện thực trong đời này. Và nói thật là chính bản thân con cũng vậy.
Khi con bắt đầu học đại học, điều đầu tiên đến trong suy nghĩ của con là con mong có được một cái nghề giúp con có danh vọng trong thế giới này. Nghề y là nghề lựa chọn đầu tiên của con. Tuy nhiên có quá nhiều yếu tố để con cân nhắc xem con có thể theo đuổi ngành y không. Điều đầu tiên đó là học phí đắt đỏ khi theo ngành y. Trong khi đó, gia đình con không đủ tiền để chu cấp cho con đi học theo ngành này. Và trong thời gian đó, một người trong gia đình của con đã không hoàn thành được ngành học này. Do vậy, rất khó cho con theo đuổi ngành học con yêu thích. Lý do thứ hai để con không theo đuổi ngành này vì chị gái con đưa ra những lời khuyên về những khó khăn trong ngành y và con đã cân nhắc từ bỏ theo đuổi ước mơ của mình. Đó là một ngành khó học và học phí cao. Kết quả là, con học đại học với những ngày lên lớp không thoải mái vì không được học ngành y mà mình yêu thích, thay vào đó con phải học cử nhân thương mại, chuyên ngành kế toán. Học kỳ thứ nhất là khoảng thời gian mà con cảm thấy dài nhất trong cuộc đời sinh viên của con. Không có ngày nào con cảm thấy hứng thú, thoải mái. Trong khoảng thời gian đó, cả ngày chúng con chỉ ngồi nói chuyện và tính toán về tiền bạc. Đầu óc chỉ thấy hiện những con số hàng triệu, hàng trăm…May mắn thay, sang học kỳ thứ 2, con được chuyển sang trường khác và chị con đã chọn cho con một ngành học khác, đó là vật lý trị liệu. Thú thật, mới đầu con không hề biết một tý gì về ngành học mới này. Nhưng con cảm thấy các môn học trở nên dễ dàng hơn với con. Ví dụ như môn học giải phẫu sinh lý người, vật lý… cũng giống như trong chương trình y khoa. Con thấy thích thú khi học những môn học này. Và dần dần năm tháng qua, con đã vượt qua tất cả các kỳ thi với điểm số tốt, tuy không phải là cao lắm. Nhưng con làm bài thi có kết quả tốt. Chỉ trong thời gian thực tập, con mới khám phá được vật lý trị liệu thực sự là gì. Con cảm thấy rất vui mừng vì con thấy được rằng thông qua công việc này con tiếp cận được gần hơn với nhiều người cần sự giúp đỡ và con có thể giúp họ có được cơ thể khỏe mạnh hơn. Sau khi áp dụng phương pháp vật lý trí liệu, các chức năng cơ thể của họ được phục hồi và giúp họ có cuộc sống tốt hơn sau khi họ bị chấn thương. Vì vậy, điều con nghĩ khi đó là con học cho thật tốt để có được tấm bằng và tìm một ông chủ ở nước ngoài để ông ấy cho con tất cả các cơ hội trở thành người giàu có. Nếu điều đó trở thành hiện thực thì tốt biết mấy. Con suy nghĩ như vậy và con cảm thấy thật hứng khởi.
Sau khi tốt nghiệp, con hiểu rằng thực tế không như những gì con thường mơ mộng. Con phải trải qua những giai đoạn khó khăn. Con đã trượt ba lần trong kỳ thi lấy giấy phép hành nghề. Và trong lần thi thứ tư, con đã vượt qua kỳ thi một cách khó khăn. Sau khi có giấy phép, con đi nộp đơn xin việc khắp nơi. Nước Mỹ là đất nước đầu tiên con hướng đến. Trong thời gian chờ đợi cơ hội để được xuất ngoại, con đã làm việc trong một bệnh viện nhà nước. Con làm ở đó 10 năm những không được vào chính thức. Con thích công việc đó nhưng con làm không lương, không có phụ cấp. Con phục vụ miễn phí cho quân đội vì con chưa được vào biên chế. Bệnh viện biết chúng con làm không lương nhưng họ cũng không quan tâm, con chỉ nhận được vài đồng bồi dưỡng từ những sĩ quan tốt bụng, nhưng cũng rất hiếm khi con gặp được những người tốt bồi dưỡng tiền. Tuy vậy, con và những đồng nghiệp của con cũng cố gắng sống tốt để nuôi hy vọng một ngày nào đó sẽ có được cơ hội để được đổi đời khi làm việc ở nước ngoài. Vài năm trôi qua, một vài người bạn của con có được cơ hội ra nước ngoài làm việc, con mừng cho họ. Và hiện giờ con nhìn thấy họ có cuộc sống sung túc với gia đình.
Từ 5 năm trở về đây, con bị ra khỏi bệnh viện với những lý do rất vô lý. Đến một thời gian nào đó tự nhiên con người bị sa thải vì có người có quan hệ tốt hơn với cấp trên về thay thế vị trí của họ. Con đã từng hy vọng mình sẽ được thăng tiến, lên chức. Nhưng cuối cùng con và một nhóm đồng nghiệp đã quyết định rời bỏ bệnh viện, một số trong chúng con đi dạy học. Một số khác chọn công việc khác để mưu sinh, một số mở phòng khám tư. Bản thân con thì chọn tự làm theo hình thức dịch vụ chăm sóc bệnh nhân tại nhà. Tuy nhiên, thu nhập của con không ổn định. Con vẫn phải tiết kiệm để sống qua ngày. Con thường xuyên đi lại, con đi đến nhà bệnh nhân để trị liệu cho họ nhưng con chỉ có việc làm khi có ai đó gọi điện cho con để nhờ con điều trị cho họ. Vì vậy công việc không được thường xuyên và ổn định.
Sau một thời gian dài sống trong cảnh thu nhập không ổn định như vậy. con chợt nhận ra rằng mặc dù con không sung túc nhưng con có thể làm điều gì đó cho người khác. Khi con nhớ lại, con thấy mình đã làm một vài điều làm cho cuộc sống khác đi. Tuy nhiên, con vẫn chưa nếm được hương vị của cuộc sống sang trọng với nhà cao cửa rộng để gia đình được sống sung túc. Nhưng con thấy cuộc sống của con với 5 chú mèo được yên bình, thoải mái và điều đó làm cho con thấy vui vẻ. Hàng đêm con đặt lưng trên một chiếc giường trong căn phòng khoảng 6 mét vuông, không có điều hòa, không có đèn đắt tiền, nhưng con vẫn tỉnh dậy vào sáng hôm sau. Con chưa bao giờ được ngồi trên chiếc xe ô tô Ford mustang GT nhưng con tự động viên mình đến nhà bệnh nhân để điều trị cho họ. Trong ví của con chưa bao giờ có nhiều tiền nhưng con vẫn là một bác sỹ trị liệu, giúp nhiều bệnh nhân đột quỵ đi được và phục hồi chức năng để tiếp tục cuộc sống của họ. Con vẫn đến nhà các bệnh nhân và chia sẻ với họ những khoảnh khắc khó khăn của họ. Mặc dù cuộc sống của con không gặp được nhiều thuận lợi nhưng con vẫn sống được.
Cách đây không lâu, con tình cờ tham gia vào một tổ chức mà ở đó chúng con đi đến các vùng khác nhau trên đất nước để nâng cao nhận thức cho mọi người về dịch vụ vật lý trị liệu. Điều này đồng nghĩa với việc chúng con sẽ cung cấp dịch vụ vật lý trị liệu cho người dân ở các vùng sâu vùng xa, nhưng vùng xa thành phố và hiếm khi có thể được tiếp cận với các dịch vụ y tế. Hiện tại, chúng con chưa hoàn thiện được chương trình này vì còn có một số thủ tục cần phải làm. Chúng con cần hợp tác được với các văn phòng của chính phủ để chương trình của chúng con được hoạt động hợp pháp. Chúng con cần thời gian để hoàn tất những thủ tục này nhưng con hy vọng mọi việc sẽ diễn ra tốt đẹp vì lợi ích của những người dân sống ở vùng sâu vùng xa, những nơi chưa có sẵn dịch vụ y tế.
Những mơ ước thời trẻ của con vẫn còn, nhưng bây con nghĩ rằng những mơ ước đó đã được thay đổi. Con vẫn mong có được cuộc sống tốt hơn nhưng con không còn bám chấp vào vật chất. Mong muốn của con bây giờ là sống có mục đích. Tiền là phương tiện và chỉ là một phần của cuộc sống. Chúng con kiếm tiền để sống nhưng không trở thành nô lệ của đồng tiền. Chúng con cần ý thức rằng con người sống trong cộng đồng và là một phần của thế giới này. Nhưng chúng con không cần phải tìm kiếm danh vọng hay để được mọi người tôn trọng, công nhận và tung hô hay để giỏi hơn những người khác. Nếu chúng con có cơ hội có được cuộc sống vật chất sung túc như có ô tô, nhà cao cửa rộng, giàu có thì chúng con nên tận dụng những thứ đó để giúp đỡ mọi người để họ có cơ hội thấy được cuộc sống tươi đẹp. Hãy chia sẻ những gì mình có. Lòng tốt là công cụ mạnh mẽ nhất kết nối con người với nhau trong hòa bình và làm nảy nở tình yêu thương, sự tôn trọng lẫn nhau. Đôi khi, chúng con không cần phải tỏ ra chuyên nghiệp khi chia sẻ điều gì đó, không cần phải đợi đến khi giàu mới chia sẻ. Có rất nhiều điều để chia sẻ cho mọi người. Ai cũng có thể chia sẻ những điều mình có với mọi người. Với con, điều con cảm thấy ân hận nhất bây giờ là con không học được về lòng tốt khi con ở trên ghế nhà trường. Bởi vì, trong khoảng thời gian đó, những điều trong đầu con chỉ là hoàn thành khóa học và kiếm thật nhiều tiền để trở nên giàu có. Thật đáng buồn cho con. Tuy nhiên, bây giờ con đã thoát ra khỏi giấc mơ mà con đã mộng quá lâu. Dần dần con nhận ra rằng tiền không phải là điều duy nhất giúp con người trở nên giàu có. Vật chất không phải là điều duy nhất giúp con người sống tốt. Hiểu bản thân mình, có mong muốn giúp đỡ người khác trong khả năng mình có thể sẽ làm cuộc sống của con tốt hơn. Sự bám chấp nên thay vào là mong muốn giúp đỡ người khác và sống tốt với mọi người.”

With the forms of gross and subtle, the five elements combine to make up the impermanent illusory display of phenomenal existence. In addition, through this article, you also make clear how the energies of the elements manifest within our everyday world, in our life, in individual behavior and in our traditions and relationships
I have learnt that if we still cling to the gross and subtle elements, we are forever in the circle of existence filled with suffering and misery. All gross and subtle elements are rapidly exhausted and used up, so attachment on such kinds of gross and subtle elements causes us to be suffered due to its impermanence. Everything in gross and subtle forms comes and goes as the nature of all phenomenal existence, and the energies from gross and subtle elements never exist forever. Nothing is permanent but pure secret energy. Only by connecting with pure secret energy, we have the everlasting happiness and pure mind.
Once again, your articles show the evidence of dialectical science for Buddhist teaching.

dear holy guru. Thank you for your wise article. I have taken the following from this article. The 5 elements of wood, fire, water, earth and metal are not static but are subject to constant change and transformation and are in dire relationship to each other. Each cycle of the cyclic process changes the starting position for the next run. as a fish needs the water or an earthworm needs the sand. Nothing is permanent even when people wish that time stands still in beautiful moments to hold on to it. The most important thing was taught by Buddhism. Buddha’s teaching that nothing is permanent and that we carry everything we need inside us. We were born and each of us discovered the suffering we did not want to experience. Buddha saw this suffering and found the way to free himself from suffering. Emotions of various kinds such as envy, greed, jealousy, egoism and anger were not innate to us. Throughout our history, they have taken the place and we have learned through meditation and the spiritual power in us to replace these qualities through love for all living beings, devotion to our holy guru, through the recitation of the Om Mani Padme Hum ourselves and to transform our mind. If we accept the experience that everything is not permanent and keeps moving, we can successfully walk the path of liberation. In no religion or philosophy of life did I find this knowledge and the wisdom that we ourselves can do something to stimulate ourselves positively. People pray to Gods that there is to be world peace. What would a god answer? Maybe we humans are the cause because not God uses or preaches violence. It is the people who are controlled by greed or other lower elements. The belief that when we are rich all the problems are gone is a fallacy. In ourselves we find what we need and we can independently escape with love and compassion of samsara. In Christianity, people say giving is more soulful than taking. I have not seen any spirituality in me before and I have not thought about whether there is a way to escape samsara. Buddha taught me to actively transform my mind and see things as they are. Mindfulness, Compassion, Devotion, Confidence I learned all the things that we carried as babies in us. Through your article holy guru, I was allowed to revisit things and I am grateful for your Dharma teachings. May you are healty and happy. May be free from Suffering. I bow my head before you
I am thankful to you for sharing a very interesting and informing lesson regarding the cosmology and related metempsychosis and its spiritual karmic metaphysics. As a matter of fact most of the religion and philosophy of the world begin with an inquiry into the essence of the objective world. From external nature it gradually turns its eyes inward, on man himself. The shifting of interest from nature to man leads to the study of human mind and human conducts, of ethics, psychology, politics, poetics, logic , and so on. Of these studies attention is centered on more particularly on ethics, and the chief question for them becomes: What is the highest good, what are the aim and end of life? In course of this investigation the study of metaphysics and of human knowledge becomes indispensable. Thus the inquisitive enquiry that started from gross to subtle, travelled from physics to philosophy, culminated in science to religion and from elements to spirituality.
The primary and the fundamental question of all philosophy and religion are ‘What is the world? And what am I? The letter No. 25, as well as my comment on it have narrated in detail ,the gross and subtle elements, and described that both biotic and abiotic community are made up of Rup Dhatu and Arupa Dhatu. Arupa Dhatu, the subtle elements are often mentioned as something at micro level, just like a molecule of water which is combined by two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom which cannot be seen with our naked eyes, can only be known through statements of chemists. And so, all external manifestations from plants, flowers, rivers, mountains to earth, air, water, space…are gross elements potential of subtle elements which vary at different levels. There is no need to describe it again here. But it is very interesting to note that the Buddhist cosmology has a great similarity with the cosmology of modern science.
Now the second question may be answered with the human relation and our interaction with the world and its external mundane phenomena. For having the contact with the external world we have the six sense organs made up of the subtle elements of the four subtle great elements, and they attract each other. For instance, nose is made of subtle elements of the earth that’s why it senses the odor or smell which the quality of earth. Eyes originates from fire or light, it catches sight, tong from water, it has the capacity to taste and so on. But the real problem arises when we develop longing or thirst for the world of forms, of sound, of odors of sapid and the things tangible. Often this thirst becomes so great that we imagine it to be the direct manifestation of our own essence. Therefore our corporeal organisms, together with consciousness, get attached to it. Because of their pleasant sensation and feelings we want to acquire them again and again. This becomes the root cause of our suffering and rebirth. We suffer in this life and life after because of our ignorance based desires in terms of ailment, bereavement, unhappiness and unfulfilled desires. But it does end with the end of this life one has to take births to consume their Karmic merits. One’s next birth is also determined with his last deeds and desire.
The entire process of the mechanism of rebirth envisaged by the Buddha can be understood empirically. When a man dies his physical organism is dissolved but the flux of the psychical stream goes on to form a new conglomeration, since the ignorance and craving which feed the karmic forces have not been destroyed. Impelled by the Karmic forces, the last moment of the series of psychical state fined a new matrix suited to it. This renewed state is the result of the preceding state so it inherits the character of the predecessor. Let us explain it. It is in this sense the last thought moment of the dying creature in form of what is known as gandhabba is said to vitalize the combination of the sperm and ovum of the parent and give rise to a renewed existence. Making it more clear in Majjhima Nikaya the Buddha has said “when three are found in combination, there a seed of life is planted. Thus if a father and mother come together, but it is not mother’s period, and being is to be born ( Gandhabba) is not present, then no seed of life is planted. Or if father and mother come together and it is mother’s period , but the being to be born is not present, then again no seed of life is planted. But when father and mother come together, and it is the mother’s period and being to be born is also present then the combine agency of the three the seed of life is planted.
Thus it is evident from above description that for the Buddha our even unconscious wishes and expectations in terms of subjective determined decisions and acts, transcends the limit of the present; precipitate for us the future, being themselves determined by the past. Inherited from the earlier birth, they cause the future births, the endless stream in which we are carried along being greater far than the bounds of individual’s birth and death. In other words, the ills of the individuals cannot be understood in terms of individual’s mistake; they are rooted inin our human way of life. the whole content of this way of life is a pathological blend of unfulfilled cravings, vexing longings, fears, regrets and pains.
However, the Buddha’s thoroughgoing treatment is guaranteed to eradicate the cause of the sickly spell and dream of ignorance.

What i get from this article, i want to share with you.
The four elements are a basis for understanding suffering and for liberating us from suffering. Each of the four elements is neutral and is neither good nor bad. It is man who gives to the acting of the elements a good or bad. There is a confusion about spirituality that causes us to have misunderstandings about things, unfortunately, we take for granted as “correct,” but can harm our spiritual growth. Correct knowledge is important for the spiritual growth; we will look at both positive and negative qualities that can develop within over selves. It is also important that how to use the power of these elements and which qualities we want to develop into our character. When we understand the things as they really are, we cannot find anything which is permanent or which exists forever. no physical or mental object is permanent. Things change and continue to do so according to the changing conditions. It arises, changes and disappears.
