Letter to disciples No.239: SURPRISES ON LONG ROAD (PART ONE)

Dear disciples,

Surprises is an objective category, independent of the subjective will of the human. Therefore, the travelers on long road can penetrate this meaning more deeply.

I still remember very well that one morning in Hai Phong city, when my car slowly rolling down on Dien Bien Phu street, a young police (Order team) rode a bike and pressed my car closely to the roadside, asking my Drive License while there was no Notice Board prohibiting vehicles going in the opposite direction. He said that this road is two-way for motorcycles and one-way for cars. I pointed at the Car number plate (51G) and said that Southern people do not know roads well and hope his sympathy. He refused and forced me to return to 110 Dien Bien Phu to handle after collecting documents of my car.

Deo Ca tunnel

Crossing the river it has to depend on ferry, I came to the above address but did not see the traffic police station or police department at all, just the headquarters of the Hong Bang district police station. I wonder if Order Management Police has the right to block cars on the road? Do the police of a ward have the right to handle administrative violations? Of course not! Why? Because not a special duration or a cross-examination time. Does the car plate “51G” attract their “Luong Son Bac” look? I prepared to write a complaint to their superiors for violating administrative behaviors, contrary to the spirit of a People’s Police.

At this Police station, they returned the Drive License to me after finding out that I had previously worked in their industry – a Journalist of People’s Police Newspaper of Hochiminh City Police. So everything went smoothly. I left with a feeling of depressing about Haiphong Police because from this case it’s easy to infer many other types of “catching up”!

After storm no.10, 11,12

On the road to Phan Thiet province, I was going on National Highway 1A there was a Traffic police stopped my car with the reason is over speed while Google Map informed the speed allowed to 90km/h but I only ran 66km/ h. This time, the traffic police of Binh Thuan province strictly organized the process is a dedicated vehicle and three traffic police, not as amateur as the Order police in Hai Phong city, a place is an obsession for drivers in city.

The leader of the group is Vo Thanh Phuong standing seriously: “Where are you going such fast Master?” I laugh, perhaps Phuong saw my religious custom and he thought I am a kungfu master or a feng shui master so he called like that? I also explained as usual arrangement with the spirit of looking forward his sympathy, Phuong smiled and let me go.

I continued to go about more 60 km, suddenly a young Traffic policeman came across the runway and blew the whistle. When I came closer to him, suddenly he dropped his hands. I could keep going across thanks to my face looks like at the slope of “autumn of life” so that I could no longer be absorbed in speed. I remembered a case in a northern province, a traffic policeman whistled to stop my car. After I got out of the car and had shown drive license yet, he said, “Well, go away!”, I was surprised “Can I leave?” He said, “Yes, go!” Then I thanked him and continued to drive car on the road. Perhaps, once again, the “Autumn of Life Face” could work!

Lotus Flower Estrade in Song Nguyen Tantra House

Lotus Flower Estrade

Dear disciples,

On a very long road, I was surprised by a wide and airy National Highway 1A with separators. Previously (about 10 years ago) Northern provinces were the worry of traffic accidents on the rugged road; now the roads are flat and smooth, helping wheel roll get comfortable. The two sides of the road crowded with residents and full of busy wholesale traffic. I am glad that the infrastructure has been upgraded many times!

the car could wheel roll smoothly

After storm no.10, 11,12 I was on the way to come back southern across Phu My district of Binh Dinh province, haunting the fear of “big pot-hole” on the road. Nearly 100 pot-holes have interfered with the traffic, almost it could break car chassis. Someone, the driver who is confident of the driving silk might be difficult to avoid traffic accidents when he tries to come though the pot-holes, colliding with behind cars. Unfortunately, they charge 35,000 vnd as naturally as nothing happens. I call this BOT is “base”! Looking forward to Transportation Dept. of Binh Dinh province review, otherwise many accidents will happen because the pot-holes on the highway!

They may say that due to the storm, the road is broken, but why on the road of Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan provinces ,there are rarely pot-holes, but on the contrary the car could wheel roll smoothly? Have the managers done all their responsibility?

Dear disciples,

only 52,000 Vnd

A memorable and impressive impression for me is the Deo Ca tunnel! I and my wife were driving the south to the north, it was first time to see Deo Ca tunnel: monumental and extremely convenient. With only 52,000 Vnd, we could pass safely and quickly. Previously I had to get through the pass stressfully, it took 1hour to slope the pass. At the first time I drove to Da Nang in 2013, I, my wife and Mat Pho were stuck in a traffic jam and it took more than 1 hour to get through. That’s it disciples, looking back to the past could help us appreciate present and firmly believe in the future. The country was difficult after hundreds of years of a war between Trinh and Nguyen dynasties, 100 years were attacked by the West invader, not to mention thousands of years of being dependent on the Chinese invaders; how could we built anything in anxiety of war?

mountain tunnels

Over the past 40 years, thanks to the peaceful country, I and you has had the opportunity to get into the beat of the times, somewhere we can heard “mountain tunnels”, “river tunnels”, “Metro tunnels”. Formerly referred to as the tunnel we think of the “tunnel of fortune”, “trench tunnel traffic”, “tunnel shelter” bomb shells, there is only dark and very similar to the so called ” light in the end of tunnel”. Now we pass the tunnels of the century, going in brilliant lights, airy space. I wondered, since the time we have the Deo Ca tunnel, is there any one ever happy that traffic accident through Deo Ca Pass from now (late 2017) will never happen again? I am pensive for those who have had traffic accidents before the Deo Ca tunnel done.

large letters “Nyingma” (Ninh Mã in Vietnamese)

The thing made me so happy to tear with the flow of emotions in mind is here, the tunnel Deo Ca, there was a noun wrote in large letters “Nyingma”, the name of a village in the land of this Phu Yen. We practice the Dharma according to the Nyingma lineage, how touched we feel when seeing these sacred words? What do the words mean? How long ago, some tantric master came here in retreat? Is it possible that the noun here indicates that we are certified according to the Dakini connotation? Many questions, but eventually something of Song Nguyen Tantra House relates to motivation through noun “Nyingma”. Disciples, we are not alone on the way to the city of liberation! In one way or another, the Dharma Guards will encourage us everywhere, just if we can catch up with that or not!

Dear disciples,

Surprises on long road is as above when I was driving from south to north, from north to south with a length of more than 5000 km. And other surprises with the different status, I leave it for the next letter. May all sentient beings achieve happiness of Buddha Nature.

Om mani pad me hum!

A rainy afternoon on the Phu Van peak

Thinley – Nguyen Thanh

Venerable Guruji, This  letter no. 239 to disciples  ( beg your pardon ) did not Impress  to my expectations as it didn’t contain  much about Buddhist teachings or Dharma Practices  except for a reference  touch to “Nyingma ” Village and link to Song Nugyen Tantra House.!

When we are traveling in the long road  full of surprises  of Buddhism which is incomparable to other religions towards the goal of Enlightenment and Liberation, ” traffic control by police”   “Big pot holes”and bad conditions of the roads are nothing but common in a long journey!and insignificant! Such obstacles are  faced by Buddha too during his long journey towards wisdom and Enlightenment !

How beautiful words of your advice in this letter that ” looking back to the past could help us appreciate present and firmly believe in the Future “!  Which are so meaningful and one has to ponder over again and again. It is nectar of long experiences of our beloved Guruji and the Great Masters of Tibetan Yoga !

Can we anticipate more of Buddhism in the second part of your surprises of long journey  Guruji ?

    Om Mani Padme Hum.

Long live our beloved Guruji for upholding Dharma Practices.
