Letter from American: IF…

Dear Holy Guru,
I’m grateful for your lesson. I have learned about the superiority of “superpowers from wisdom”  — the ability to recognize the nature of phenomena. And therefore, there is no need for me to pursue any “superpower from meditation.” (divine eyes, mind-reading, divine ears)

những cấu trúc tinh thể đẹp hay xấu tuỳ thuộc vào tư tưởng chúng ta lúc đó tích cực hay tiêu cực.

Because if I can see everything in this Saha world like heavenly beings (deva), my divine eyes will only show me what is bound by Samsara. I won’t see the nature of phenomena. In contrast, suppose I can see the right views, the constant operation of the law of causes and effects, purifications, blessings, etc. In that case, I will eventually understand what the Buddas taught. That is the superpower of wisdom that I need. To have that, I can practice Samyagdrsti-Prabha Samadhi (read and comment on chanhtuduy.com‘s articles), accumulate the right views, and cultivate right thinking.

If I can read minds, I am not any better than the titans (asura). If I can hear from very far away or understand all languages (divine ears), I am not any better than a human-made machine; the world won’t need a Buddhist practitioner. In contrast, suppose I can hear and understand the sufferings of sentient beings from anywhere. In that case, I will bring much more benefits to me and the world because that is the hearing and understanding of our Yidam Avalokiteshvara. That is the superpower of wisdom that I need. To have that, I can practice Samyagdrsti-Prabha Samadhi, where I can listen to and understand my Dharma friends in many countries through their sharings.

If I can travel anywhere, I may or may not do anything good for myself and others. In contrast, suppose I always think about the inhabitants of this Saha world, suppose I pray for them through the “Meditation on Bodhicitta” or the Mani mantras I chant in “Lotus Walking Dharani.” In that case, I can bring benefit to them even if they are in a distant realm. And even though my seeds of Bodhicitta are tiny at the moment, they will eventually grow into a forest. That is the superpower of wisdom that I need.

Even though my seeds of Bodhicitta are tiny at the moment, they will eventually grow into a forest

If I can know my many past lives like a deva, I will still suffer from the knowledge that my next rebirths will be in lower realms. In contrast, suppose I know that I will be liberated from Samsara in my next life. In that case, I will live happily. Without any superpower from meditation, I can know right now that I will be liberated from Samsara because the Buddhas have created so many paths to achieve that. Moreover, the Guru has shown those paths to me — paying Homage, chant the Mani Mantra, visualize the Guru and Yidam, etc. He also guides me and ensures my success.

the Mani Mantra

For these reasons, I do not need the superpowers of meditation. Focusing on cultivating my superpower of wisdom instead, I will find the last and most superior superpower, “the extinction of all mental intoxicants.”

This superpower is unique to the Buddha’s path. To non-Buddhist, the highest level of attainment is a stage of emptiness that resembles a bear’s hibernation. At the end of this hibernation, mental intoxicants will reappear. It reminds me of a formless heaven where beings live in this same stage until their painful deaths as if thousands of arrows are piercing them. As a Buddhist practitioner, I do not need this experience. What I need is the superpowers of wisdom that will bring me and all sentient beings to liberation, the end of all sufferings.

I need is the superpowers of wisdom that will bring me and all sentient beings to liberation, the end of all sufferings.

Therefore, I do not need the attainments many people want. I recall this simple statement from the Yidam:

Because my unparalleled vow-power from infinite pasts is to convey effortless rebirths into the Pure Land for all beings who see me, hear me, think of me, or contact me, the Arias in the Land of Ultimate Bliss of Amitabha Buddha, and the Jinas – the victorious ones, have venerated me as THE LORD OF NATURAL LIBERATION FROM SAMSARA.

Dear Holy Guru,
Thank you for the lesson today. Because of this lesson, I now have the bravery to renounce my wrong views about superpower in Buddhism. I realize what I currently have is much more valuable than the meaningless supernatural phenomena. I realize a wise and compassionate Buddhism that is also applicable because it doesn’t require everyone to do something only a few can achieve. I pray for your good health and longevity for the benefit of all sentient beings. May all sentient beings attain the happiness of Buddha’s nature.

May the Covid 19 pandemic will soon be over.
Om Mani Padme Hum.

    Dear holy Guru,

I’m happy to read this article from dharma friend Cao Dieu Nhat Nguyen. What a beautiful and meaningful article to share the insight that Nhat Nguyen was getting from your teaching.
I am incredibly grateful for the wisdom, bodhicitta, and compassion you have bestowing us – disciples and followers. It brings us to a new life of Thanh Tri’s practitioners; follow the Buddha’s path leads to the ultimate liberation.
I sincerely pray for your good health and longevity for the sake of all sentient beings.

May the COVID-19 pandemic will come to an end soon.
May Cao Dieu Nhat Nguyen and his family always have a good life under Avalokiteshvara’s blessing through Guru’s channel.

    Dear Cao Dieu Nhat Nguyen,
Thank you for your sharing after listening to Guru’s sermon about “Superpowers generated by Pure Mind Dharma”. Before this lecture, I also thought that superpowers were some kind of seeing and hearing far far away, reading other’s minds, travelling in a blink of an eye, or the ability to tell the previous lives. It turns out these kinds of superpowers are just “the kiddings” compared to the superpowers from wisdom. They are meaningless attainment toward a Buddhist practitioner who is looking for wisdom and liberation, as “all good actions not originating from Bodhicitta are wrong view”. Now I have understood that the true superpowers are the ones that benefit the ultimate liberation for all sentient beings, as the superpowers generated from six marvellous spiritual methods of Song Nguyen Tantra house. I’m so grateful that Guru invented Pure Mind Dharma and we are so fortunate to have guidance from Guru.
I pray for Guru’s good health and longevity for the benefit of all sentient beings.
May the Covid-19 pandemic will come to an end soon.
    Om mani padme hum.

Om Mani Padme Hum. Thank you Dear Guru for this profound and marvelous teaching. It shows how the siddhis can be a trap as samsara would just be prolonged without cultivation of wisdom being the main focus. This is a very powerful truth. I know that I was pulled in by the allure of Siddhis also when encountered Vajrayana, and Guru Rinpoche. My life has since become much more simple and it is enough to just be. I benefit and others will benefit when i just let go and embrace the natural state.

    Dear Holy Guru!
I’m delighted to read this article of dharma friend Cao Dieu Nhat Nguyen. I’m impressed by his sharing.
This article made me think that if we, Buddhist practitioners, got “superpowers from meditation”, we might be no different from Deva or Asura or a human-made machine. Why do we become like them – beings in Samsara – when we are practicing Dharma in order to attain Liberation. We can not bring benefits to ourselves and others even if we have full of superpowers from meditation.
I understand that we don’t need the superpowers of meditation and also don’t need to admire it. We should focus on cutivating superpower of wisdom instead, we will find the last and most superior superpower, “the extinction of all mental intoxicants”. It will bring us and all sentient beings to liberation, the end of all sufferings.
I thank you Guru so much for inventing Pure Mind Yoga and allowing us to practice/rehearse in order to gradually end the sufferings of Samsara.
May Guru have good health and live long for the sake of sentient beings.
Thank dharma friend Cao Dieu Nhat Nguyen for sharing. I pray you will be good in your life thanks to blessings from Avalokiteshvara through Guru’s channel.
May all sentient beings achieve the happiness of Buddha’s nature.
May the Covid 19 pandemic will be end soon.
    Om Mani Padme Hum.

That’s right! As long as any practitioners desire to attain superpower from mediation, they have nothing different to Deva or Asura or human-made machine.

    Dear Holy Guru,

I am delighted to read the article of Dharma friend Cao Dieu Nhat Nguyen.

His sharing reminds me about your teaching in a recent sermon named “SUPERPOWER GENERATED BY PURE MIND YOGA”. I understand that as a Buddhist, if I pursue the superpower from meditation, I will achieve nothing except wasting my time for the trivial attainment that non-Buddhist can do too. It just leads me to Samsara longer and longer.

Therefore, I feel how lucky we are when we have been taught and guided by Guru. We know the main purpose of our life in order not to be trapped by meaningless supernatural phenomena.

I am grateful for your teaching, Guru.

May Guru have good health and live long for the sake of all sentient beings.

Thank you very much for your sharing, Cao Dieu Nhat Nguyen. May you achieve all the legitimate wishes.

May all sentient beings achieve the happiness of Buddha nature.

May the Covid-19 pandemic end soon.

    Dear Guru,

    I have read this article.

Thank you very much, Cao Dieu Nhat Nguyen, for this interesting and meaningful writing. I rejoice to your sharing about the superiority of “superpowers from wisdom” which make all of other superpowers from meditation become inferior for a Buddhist practitioner. Instead of seeing, hearing everything in this samsara from far distance, going everywhere in super fast speed, reading others’ minds or knowing the past – the meaningless attainments on the path leads to city of liberation, we need to get the ability to recognize the nature of phenomena, aim to the “gradual loss” of all samsaric burdens while accumulating the luggage of merit and wisdom on the path of Mindfulness. I happily and totally agree with your sentence, “I realize what I currently have is much more valuable than the meaningless supernatural phenomena”, we are such the fortunate people when having the chances to meet and follow holy Guru’s guidance in practicing Thanh Tri Mind Dharma with The Six Marvelous Methods.

I am grateful to Guru for inventing the beneficial Thanh Tri Mind Dharma. May Guru have good health and live long for the sakes of all sentient beings.

May Cao Dieu Nhat Nguyen achieve the legitimate wishes thanks to blessing from Avalokiteshvara through Guru’s channel.

May all sentient beings attain the happiness of Buddha’s nature.

May the covid 19 pandemic soon end.

    Dear holy Guru,
The writer of this letter displeased me
to a little extent because of his ಲಾಂಗಿಂಗ್ for ” Super Natural power ” which Buddhism will never teach and teaches only ” Natural powers ” in Human beings or sentient beings.
He sometimes remarks a contrary statement that “the world does not need Buddhist practioners”, although he praises some good words about Guru’s pure mind dharma teaching, he expects super Natural powers from Meditation without understanding the natural powers of meditation that it is one of the ways for Enlightenment on the spiritual line.!
All these points to be taken to cognisense and suitably guided by you Guruji, lest wrong message will go tothe
    Society.!

      Dear Tantra Nirvadeva,
Thank you for your comment! I understand what you meant. You said it correctly that the Buddha has never placed an emphasis on supernatural power. The author of this article shares the same idea with you. He did not expect supernatural powers, he just used a paradoxical way of expressing so that the reader would understand why we, as Buddhist practitioners, do not need to have supernatural powers. He did emphasize the only superpower, which is the power of wisdom. You may misunderstand what he meant. But I am glad to point out the most important thing, which I know is rooted in your strong foundation and pure faith.

Dear holy Guru, lam most thankfulto you Guruji for clearing my doubts and misunderstanng. I beg pardon of the writer for my mistake sir in understanding your mind that you also meant that Buddha never emphasized on super natural powers.
