Letter to Disciples No. 309: THOUGHTS ABOUT DOING “COMMENTS”

Dear disciples!

One legend from China tells of a man that made friend with a demon. One day, they were going on road when the demon suddenly turned to other direction, citing that it was dazzled by brilliant lights radiated from a house by the road-side. On being asked about the source of brilliant lights, the demon answered that the house’s master was reading books of the sage which made the house suffused with righteous energy and radiant lights. In China, there is a collection of books written by 100 sages, including works of Lao Tzu, Confucius, Meng Tzu, Hsun Tzu and other sages. These works are said to help the reader develop good nature, decorum and uprightness (C. 義禮).

There is a collection of books written by 100 sages, including works of Lao Tzu, Confucius, Meng Tzu, Hsun Tzu and other sages

Buddhist canons which were born from great samadhi and sunyata by the Omniscient Being (Sarvajna)

So what do you think? The wisdom of sages is that of usefulness, let alone Buddhist canons which were born from great samadhi and sunyata by theOmniscient Being (Sarvajna)! However, it’s worth clarifying that such superior wisdom is often put in academic style which we hardly understand, for instance:

“The Tao that can be told is not the eternal Tao

The name that can be named is not the eternal name” (quote from the Tao te Ching by Lao Tzu– Scripture of the Dao and its virtue).

So do Chinese or Sankrit-written Buddhist scriptures which are translated into complicated, profound Vietnamese literal structures that cause difficulties for the reader to embrace. Therefore, I have simplified the semantic denotations to easier level for you to grasp their meaning. A total of 2,300 articles and over 150 audio-sermons divided into 8 categories that cover hundreds of social and spiritual topics have been posted on It takes up to five to ten years for a reader to read all articles with total length of 4,360,000 words (Four millions three hundreds and sixty thousand words); over 150 hours in ten consecutive days to listen all audio sermons.

Dear disciples!

Bodhisattva Shantideva asserted that a thought that focuses on the welfare of others by praying for them to attain Buddha’s nature will be a good cause for becoming future Buddha (quoted from “A Guide to the Bodhisattva Way of Life)

Above is our treasure of Buddhist teachings, but our treasure of Bodhicitta is more precious and noble. In each article, we comment and pray for the sentient beings to attain the happiness of Buddha’s nature and various aspects of enlightenment. Statistics from Google indicate that we now have a total of 142,435 comments, equivalent to 142,435 prayers for the sentient being in six samsaric realms. Bodhisattva Shantideva asserted that a thought that focuses on the welfare of others by praying for them to attain Buddha’s nature will be a good cause for becoming future Buddha (quoted from “A Guide to the Bodhisattva Way of Life – Bodhicaryāvatāra). Besides, the mantra “Om Mani Padme Hum” that you write at the end of each comment is equal to the chanting of twelve volumes of Tibetan Buddhist canon that bring benefit to the sentient beings in six realms (quoted from holy teachings in “One Life, One Mantra”).

So what do you think? Does our website radiate brilliantly? “Inconceivable” – one word that says it all! Therefore, by logical thinking, if that demon was afraid of the light coming from the sage’s book, then those who are human but find it difficult to access surely have demonic traits. Anyone who is envious and defame mean they are looking down upon the Buddha’s sutra and dharma, against the teaching of Bodhisattva Manjusri on sharing joy with good deeds of the sentient beings and the merit and virtue of Buddhist practitioners as well. Obviously, these people shall incur bad consequences right in this or next life. Why is that? Because none of the sentences on are written from subjective thinking of the writer but convey messages of enlightened ones as the holy guidance for younger generation like us to follow and act in the right orbit of Buddhist dharma (totally different from right orbits of Confucianism, Christianity, Judaism, Islam…).

Teaching of Bodhisattva Manjusri on sharing joy with good deeds of the sentient beings

Dear disciples!

From those points on, I would help you realize the value of comments on as follows:

  1. Pedagogic principle:

Both teacher and students would know about each other through comments. A comment is approved to post means it is written righteously. Through a comment, the teacher is able to know which mistake the learner made or how diligent the learner is, based on which the teacher will help guide the learner come back to the right track. Giving comment is also a good way to express the attitude of the student towards Dharma study and practice. In pagodas, monasteries or yoga centers, the teacher need see the follower with real eyes to know whether or not they are assiduous and have serious attitude while in Song Nguyen Tantra House, all these are just done through comments. Therefore, comments are the bridge between the Guru and disciples.

  1. Spiritual aspect on the basis of causality principle:

1/ Praying for the well-being and achievements of the sentient beings means you are practicing Application Bodhicitta (see a series of “Prayer: Words of Wisdom Lead to Achievements”).

2/ Chanting the six-syllable mantra “Om Mani Padme Hum” means you are benefiting all beings.

Chanting the six-syllable mantra “Om Mani Padme Hum” means you are benefiting all beings

3/ Collecting bricks of wisdom to form the foundation of Enlightenment – an expression of devotion to Guru.

Collecting bricks of wisdom to form the foundation of Enlightenment – an expression of devotion to Guru.

4/ Rehearsing/Practicing the second mind dharma “Samyadgrsti-prabha Samadhi” (Read and Comment).

5/ Sharing joy with good deeds of the sentient beings and merit and virtue of Buddhist practitioners.

From those five points, I can tell the result (for the one who regularly comments) and consequence (for the one who doesn’t or rarely gives comment):

a/ Results:

1/ Accumulating blessings and wisdom; gaining successes in life, achieving legitimate wishes. This comes from the principle: “One for all, all for one”, “plant good seed, gain good crop”.

2/ Immersing oneself in right view and gradually turning it into a powerful armor against the invasion of evil spirit, evil monk and evil power.

3/ Increasing the power of getting respect (get respect from others, be trusted and assigned important work…)

b/ Consequences:

1/ Breaking the wall of blessings and merits

2/ Work get stuck, wishes unfulfilled

3/ Disrespect to Guru

Dear disciples!

A disciple named Mat Huan (Truong Thanh Long) once said that the reason I asked you to diligently comment was to raise the website rank. This is definitely wrong. Should I need run for success so as to fall into pitfall of Fame-Shame or Gain-Loss? Should a billionaire show off or just need silently enjoy what he’s achieved? Should a practitioner who has completely achieved merit and virtue do more to gain worldly goal? Of course not! If rank is important, why does limit log-in account? For that negative thought, Mat Huan was not allowed to stay in Song Nguyen Tantra House and now returns to his mundane name “Truong Thanh Long”. Those who have similar behavior will incur the same consequence as him. Is there anyone who was expelled from Song Nguyen Tantra House wish to return to show off what they’ve achieved in worldly life? Surely yes! Because they want to prove that they can get success without Song Nguyen Tantra House. Pitifully, I’ve never met such successful cases but just nonsensical words uttered from mean minds. Song Nguyen Tantra House, meanwhile, develops radiantly yearly with growing number of followers and increasing faith of the disciples, as you all see and know!

Song Nguyen Tantra House, meanwhile, develops radiantly yearly with growing number of followers and increasing faith of the disciples, as you all see and know!

Dear disciples!

It’s worth to notice that those followers and disciples who regularly make mistake and are not permitted to make penitence shall gain zero result if they try to do comment, even 5 comments a day. Why so? Because it’s the contrast between knowledge and practice, words and actions, just like a person who places two feet on two boats.

Recently, I am delighted to see growing number of comments of local and foreign readers and disciples in recent time, especially the inclusion of prayer for the elimination of Covid 19 pandemic in English comment. This article are words of encouragement to you. In this tense situation, you need give more comments for the sake of our own nation and people around the world.  May all sentient beings attain the happiness of Buddha’s nature. May all our merits obtained in the past 15 years be dedicated to the elimination of Covid 19.

Om Mani Padme Hum!

  1. Henrique says:

Hello friends of the dharma, I come again to write in chantduy. I was discouraged, but my friend Violet once made me come here. I thank Lord Guru, for clarifying his method on this website, I feel privileged that I, who am in a country very far from Buddhism and the great Lamas, may be taken care of by your mercy.

May all beings manage to overcome the Corona epidemic.

    Om Mani Padme Hum

  2. tantra mahavita says:

Dear Holy Guru … Always grateful for sharing your articles. Grateful to the Guru who in this space shares and transmits the Buddhist teachings. Having Bodhicitta as the most precious asset … Wishing from the depths of our hearts that all beings reach the Nature of Buddha. May our Guru live happily for benefit of all sentient beings. That all beings achieve liberation. That the Covid 19 virus pandemic be completely removed .OM MANI PADME HUM

  3. paul yawney says:

Dear Holy Guru, Thank you for another great article.Since I have started following your teachings I have a better sense of direction in my learning before I had no formal teachings. I am humbled and honoured to be learning from you May there be a quick end to this pandemic virus and the negative behavior people are doing to each other. OM MANI PADME HUNG.   TANTRA HIMATARU.

  4. Mật Minh Ánh (7 years old) says:

    Dear Guru

I have read this article already.

Thank you for writing the article.

I pray for longevity of Guru for the sake of sentient beings.

May all sentient beings drink the nectar essence of Dharma.

Pray for the Corona pandemic to be soon eradicated.

    Om Ah Hum.

  5. Dear Guru

Thank you for your reasoning about the inconceivable value of as well as the practice of read and comment on it. This is not the first time you’ve explained to us about the benefit of reading and commenting on the website, given a series of articles on the second mind dharma “Samyadgrsti-prabha Samadhi” posted before. And now you still patiently remind us of it. I am so grateful and feel ashamed as well for my laziness in practicing dharma.

And I also feel surprised and intolerable to know someone’s ill will on your compassion and kindness by saying the purpose of Guru’s requesting us to comment is to raise the website rank. Their words remind me of the story you told in the article about a demon who was afraid of brilliant light and righteous energy shone from a house whose master was reading book of the sage. Wonder if the light and pure energy of Buddha Dharma radiated from make someone feel afraid or hate? If raising the rank is necessary for the sentient beings to be able to access and enjoy benefits from Buddha’s teachings, freeing from evil energy of evil monks and evil power, I voluntarily do as many comments as possible. However, this is unnecessary as nothing can impede the spreading fragrance of Buddhist practitioner, given a growing number of local and foreign readers every month. I feel sorry for those who measure the compassion of a Guru by their mean and impure mind.

Thank you again for teaching us how benefit it is to comment on the website. I would keep im mind that doing comment in dharma sermons is our best and fastest way to accrue Bodhicitta, which is the good cause for future Budhahood (as asserted by Bodhisattva Shantideva).

May Guru and your consort live long for the sake of the sentient beings

May all sentient beings stay in the state of awakening

May Corona pandemic soon be eliminated

    Om Mani Padme Hum

I have full of desire. I am thankful for accepting me as student. You are like the massive sun and I as plannet rotating for enery to survive. Though I have full of Egoness but still I am ready to do anything for guru, budha, dharma and sangha. Without you I am nothing. It’s true always true.

May guru teachings spread all over the world for peace and happiness. May guru and his concert live long for well being of all.

May all sensient being attain enlightenment.

  10. Tantraupatissa says:

Dear Guru thanks for sharing this article.

We are very lucky to find Guru like you who has translated many Dharma books and chantings from Sanskrit and other languages to make lay men like us to understand and giving us a chance to create good merits by reading and commenting on the articles. Also thanks for introducing one life one mantra to us which is equivalent to reading 12 volume of Dharma books.

May Corona virus epidemic may come to an end.

May Guru and his consort live long for sake of other beings.

May all beings be free from suffering and get enlightened.

    Om Mani Padme Hum…

  11. Jason says:

First time hearing the “demon” story….very enlightening article !!😊🙏

  12. Sonam Tshering says:

    Dear guru,

Though i am a buddhist i didnt get true meaning of what dharma is. bcoz as a student we cannot really focus on it.. but i always remember that its the only creation that makes imposible things possible.

i came to knew that the main aim should be the attainment of better beings to proceed further. So we should aim to be a practioner who gets direction from the master after our comment which we found during practise..

So i agree that comment is not just for top ranking. Its mainly for the diciples to follow the right orbit of the teaching for their progrsssion.

Therefore i thank each and every individual who has put their effort to spread this meaningful article regardless of their time being wasted..

So, may all sentient beings attain their dream and free from any diseases and ilness..

    Om mani ped mae hung.🙏🙏🙏

  13. Dr C H Lakshmi narayana says:

I bow my head at the lotus feet of Guruji., is no doubt , is the treasure house of wisdom which is most important and the last but one step to Enlightenment and Liberation !. It is also a bridge Guruji’s, Buddha’s teachings and Dharma practitioners all over the globe. If one does not utilize the benefit of, it is just like returning empty handed after entering the Nature bestowed  treasure house of gold, pearls and gems ! Or  it is just like mistaking  gold for copper.!

” Comments” means in other wards ” Criticize”  or ” Expound”, meaning to explain both the good and bad ,useful and non useful aspects of the subject matter and no one sided traffic of flattery. I am observing some dharma practitioners while writing in their comments, in the spirit of praising high of Guruji and Buddhism ,on some ocassions, criticizing low of  other religions like christianity, Hinduism, Islam etc. Which in my opinion is not good. All fingers are not alike ! But all the fingers are essential in the integrity of function and co-ordination of the hand!

So also, though other religion’ s ways and means are different, their goal is same- Liberation !. Boddha was honouring all the religions equally!.  0nce, a disciple of Jainism, attracted by Buddha’s teachings approached Buddha and expressed his inclination to join Buddhism.

Buddha asked, ” Have you expressed your opinion to your Guru and taken his permission?”. He said ” No “.  Buddha sent him back telling him to first obtain the permission of your Guruji and then come,!

So, we should not  talk I’ll of others or make sarcastic remarks on others or other religions while upholding our Buddhism or praising our Guruji! Out of sheer respect and love, we cherish praising our Guruji, but we have no right to condemn others.

As it is explained in the Right Realisations of great men sutta,

Bodhisattvas consider everyone, friends and enemies alike, as equal.

They don’t condemn any one’s past wrongdoings, nor do they hate even those who are presently doing evil. This expresses the spirit of Mahayana Buddhism!. We should practice generosity with compassion and not disdain without discriminating against people who have caused anger and hatred. The incident of the disciple  Mat Juan who is expelled out of Song Nguyen Tantra House is  pitiable for his Wrong Comments in and an alarm for others.!

    Loka Samastha Sukhino Bhavanthu.

    Om Mani padme Hum.

    Tantra Nirvadeva.

    Dear Holy Guru,

I remembered the first feel months reading about Dharma on I feel like a person who has lived in a dark room for many years suddenly get to see the light. At first, the light can be overwhelming, then his eyes adjust and start to see everything very clearly. He never want to comeback to the darkness. Reading and commenting on gives me the similar beneficial light.

    It is beneficial because:

    1. My prayers for all beings are Bodhicitta in action

    2. Chanting Mani Mantra brings benefits to all beings

    3. Accumulate the bricks to build the house of Enlightenment because this is an act of Guru devotion

    4. Practice Samyadgrsti-prabha Samadhi

    5. Sharing joy with good deeds of the sentient beings and merit and virtue of Buddhist practitioners.

From this practice I will be able to accumulate both Wisdom and Merits, the tickets to the Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss.

Thank you for the beneficial writing. May the Guru and his Consort have good health for the benefit of all sentient beings. May all sentient beings attain the happiness of Buddha’s nature. May the Corona pandemic will soon be over.

dear holy guru. Thank you very much for your article Thoughts about doing comments. First let me say that I hope you holy guru and the Sangha are all in good health. Yes, we live in a time when we have to prove that we practice compassion and boddhiccita. You holy guru teach us when we read and comment on your wise articles we will continue to develop .. You teach us with compassion and bring us closer to the Dharma based on stories. My deepest thanks for that. No matter what race, culture or gender we have. Everyone can view, read and comment on your wise articles at any time on You are our teacher and give us help so that we can improve. Comments are the respect we give you for all your work and efforts to teach us the Dharma for the benefit of all. In this hard time in which we are regulating life here and changes taking place, it is extremely important to train our mind and to practice compassion. no prayer will help us if we do not practice and internalize what we have read. No matter from which perspective we look at things whether friend or foe, we are all the same. There are mantras in Buddhism in many different languages that we can learn. The path to a mantra OM MANI PADME HUM is still the most important mantra for me. In Tibetan Buddhism, I learned the mantra Om Tare Tutare Soha related to the corona crisis that I now practice daily. I am grateful for your support and the Dharma you are teaching us. I know I have to work on myself to bring peace to my mind again. And your site helps me with that. May all beings be free from suffering. Keep everyone healthy and successful on the path to enlightenment. May our holy guru be healthy and life long for the sake of all sentient beeings. 34. Tantra Nikakuwa says:

    Dear Respected Dhamma Guru,

Thank you so much for this nice article. With your permission, here i also mention & request you something.

What was the object of the Enlightened One in creating the Bhikkhu? Today we say them Bhikkhu or the Guru. Was his object to create a social servant/philosopher/spiritual guide devoting his life to service of the people & being their friend, guide & philosopher? Or a perfect man? If the Bhikkhu or the Guru is only a perfect man then there is no use because though a perfect man he is a selfish man. If, on the other hand he is a social servant/ Guru/ spiritual guide, he may prove to be the hope of Buddhism used to remove the sufferings of the human beings.

Many people were coming to the Enlightened One to receive instructions in the Dhamma. The Enlightened One knew that it was difficult for him personally to give instructions to each one, so he felt the necessity of the Parivrajaka’s & framed the rules and regulations called “Vinaya” and made them binding upon the members. After few years attached them to a Bhikkhu and remaining training under him.

Once the Blessed Lord said that, the doctrine which is glorious in the beginning, glorious in the middle and glorious at the end.

The Blessed Lord also state that,

The gift of the Dhamma exceeds all gifts, the sweetness of the Dhamma exceeds all sweetness and the delight in the Dhamma exceeds all delights.

The fields are damaged by the weeds, mankind is damaged by passion therefore a gift of Dhamma brings great reward.

The fields are damaged by the weeds, mankind is damaged by hatred therefore a gift of Dhamma brings great reward.

The fields are damaged by the weeds, mankind is damaged by vanity therefore a gift of Dhamma brings great reward.

The fields are damaged by the weeds, mankind is damaged by lust therefore a gift of Dhamma brings great reward.

From that day this gift of the Dhamma continuously delivered by the compassionate Bhikkhu’s or the compassionate Guru’s without fail to serve the mankind.

So here I request you all my Dhamma friends to respect our Guru’s while commenting, without them we are not able to understand the Dhamma, the law of nature well. In present day they are only the person who know & able person to teach Dhamma, the law of nature.

Day by day the world getting worse condition. Children’s & elderly people are getting sick.

We must go thru the “RATANA SUTTA” This discourse delivered by the Ven. Bhikkhu Ananda, one of the principle disciples of the Enlighten One in the city of Vaishali whose citizens appealed to him for help, being afflicted by famine, pestilence and nature disturbance. It is said that after delivering his discourse people become happy & the pestilence subsided.

Here I request you respected Dhamma Guru to explain about the importance of this discourse for the sake of mankind please.

May all beings are to be happy & free from all type of sufferings.

Thank you for your kind blessings dear Guru..

In Japan, people called the Buddha as ‘Bhaisajya-guru’. The Buddha as the Great Doctor for the ills of the world.

Once the Buddha had attended on a sick Bhikkhu (Monk) and thus saying to his disciples:

“The Tathagata (Buddha) has come into the world to befriend the poor, to succor the unprotected, to nourish those in bodily affliction, both the followers of the Dharma and unbelievers, to give sight to the blind and enlighten the minds of the deluded, to stand up for the rights of orphans as well as the aged, and in so doing to set an example to others”.

    Dear Guru,

I am not personally aware from which the particular sutra is taken but I do study one book on Buddhism where it is narrated. It is in the book “The Buddha And His Dhamma”.

  43. Thomas Charles says:

Hello once again, Most Holy Guru.  This article was interesting in its description of comments as “the bridge between Guru and disciples.”  I had never thought of them in quite that fashion.  Thank you for this teaching.
