THE PRECIOUS HUMAN LIFE (Kiếp người quý hiếm)

This morning is the lovely day and I can see the dew drop on the grass and hearing the sound of the cicadas that inform the summer season coming. A new day is begin and today I feel blessing than usually. As my habit, I begin to whisper in my mind and begin for prostration to refuge Buddha ,Dharma, Shanga. I’s so very lucky to have the path for practice Dharma and Esoteric Buddhism. As my Guru’s preaching, I practice Dharma in normal life and bless for sentient being in six realm. I was wondering what would happen if I hadn’t have the rare and precious human being, or I wouldn’t have the wonderful change to practice Dharma, and still stuck  in Samara forever.

Let’s imagine if you had rebirth in the lower realm , ex: the hungry ghost, animal and the hell…or even the higher realms: the God , and Jealous God… ex: if we rebirth into the animal look like beautiful butterfly that we could have freedom to fly anywhere in the sky and suddenly we be swallowed by the ugly Draco , that we would  only enjoy a few happy moment and then disappear. Or we could be rebirth to become the ignorant and powerful lion and freedom in Jungle but we must be struggle to survive before more violent creature, or more simple we could be rebirth into the golden fish and  enjoy the majestic ocean and once day we would be caught by the fish-man or maybe we could be drift in the five-star restaurant , then the rich man would point into us and said “ I would want to eat this fish , please make the favor food” ,  we would know what happen next. Generally speaking, the animal who have main obstacle of stupidity , even though they want to reach happiness like all sentient being do, they don’t have the intellectual capacity to understand how to do. And the hungry Ghost is always starving and thirsty that is depicted as having the enormous stomachs and in thin throat as the result of excessive greed in the previous life. And the worst realm is the hell that suffering all the extremely hot or extremely cold with no end  of feeling that consumed with anger or aggression. Or even the God who are involved in their pleasure , don’t seek enlightenment, their life is so long enough and they don’t see the impermanent as well as the emptiness and their life is surrounding the joyful that never end. So that why only to be born in human because it is realm which has the best possibility of reaching enlightenment. And now we know how important to gain the human being, they often give illustration : “A turtle lives in the ocean and every 100 years he comes up for air. If that turtle was to rise for air and by chance put his head through a bucket that was floating on the surface it would be extremely rare” . Attaining a precious human rebirth is even rarer than that .

Well, a precious human life, however, is something very special – something different . the Guru say it is almost impossible to attain and one you have it you should not waste it because it is unlikely to come around again. Basically, a precious human life is where you attain a human body that is endowed with all the free and favorable condition and how rare we have the condition now we have , for example : you are living in a country where you are free to practice spirituality (  not born in African country where rare food to survive ), you are having all the human sense faculties ( not death or dumb), you are born where spiritual teachings have been taught ….So how you feel lucky enough to attain the precious human being that look like than more having a big treasure, big diamond which need to be discovered. But sometime, I so very ashamed because I still affliction that spend time for yearning distraction and pleasure ( for shopping…) and regret for wasting time of precious human being that drifting every day. I would like more pray for perseverance of myself as well as other Dharma diamond‘s friend  and I pray for the passion and eminent Guru that please keep attention to us …..

Dear holy guru. Thank you very much for your article and the translation. I understand your article perfectly and I wish I could implement everything at the moment. I am in a kind of dead end at the moment and I try to work on it. There are people who tell me that this standstill is normal and it comforts me. I meditate but my mind is distracted. What am I doing wrong? I plan the day the evening and forget the here and now. I understand perfectly how important daily work is to oneself. Or is it the daily strain that keeps rising? What can I do? To your article, I would like to say that mindfulness is one of the most important tasks. With clear mind to perceive the moment. I also practice this with compassion. I enjoy the few moments of rest and only then do I consciously perceive. The photo of the Sangha to your article is very well chosen and it exudes calm. The calm which makes us see what is really important and the awareness for the moment to take care of the things around us. Standstill comes safely when you do nothing. But I read and try to meditate. May you, Holy Guru, forgive me that I wrote so honestly these lines to you, may all beings be free from suffering and all have a blessed weekend. May you be blessed with great health and strength, and let us share your wise knowledge  Om Mani Padme Hum

  7. Tantra Mikaya says:

Dear Holy Guru, thank you for your article and translation. I have discussed this article in peace again and thank you for sharing your clever knowledge with us. I understand the article as an admonition and help at the same time. We must be aware that we are only strengthened through our daily training and meditation. Distractions, to feel every joy, weakens our mind. I myself have made the mistake of neglecting the daily workout, but not enjoying it. It is a second commitment and I quickly realized that the fulfillment became stress. I have made the daily training more intense and am grateful that I can feel calm and clear. Moral purity means macroscopic physical and linguistic behavior. As long as any imperfections remain in what we say or do, it is not a question of virtue in the proper sense. When it is accomplished and so has pacified action and speaking, there is also spiritual rest, the cleansing of the mind, which in turn promotes the further steps in the process of cleansing: freedom from misunderstandings, freedom from doubts, recognition of the right way, knowledge of progress On the way and finally an intuitive insight. The cleaning of the behavior and the mind is only the entrance. I thank you Holy Guru for your time and your tireless commitment to the benefit of all. May Holy Guru have a long and healthy life. May all beings be free from suffering and be blessed with pure spirit.  Om Mani Padme Hum

    Dear Mat Kinh,

I really rejoin in reading your article titled “The precious human life”.

The advantage of having human body is so clear. With this body, we have enough freedom and good conditions to practice dharma as well as to help other sentient beings in the six realms. However, to rebirth in human world is so rare. To demonstrate this fact, an example is given, as follow:

” A turtle lives in the ocean and every 100 years he comes up for air. If that turtle was to rise for air and by chance put his head through a bucket that was floating on the surface it would be extremely rare”.

Thanks Mat Kinh for your meaningful topic.

May you be blessed by Yidam, Guru and Dakini.

May Guru Thinley Nguyen Thanh and his consort live long for the benefit of all sentient beings.

May all beings achieve the happiness of Buddha’s nature.

    Om Mani Padme Hum.

  10. Tantra Amishuta says:

May all sentient beings find the path to enlightenment and keep faithful to the study of Buddhism. Om Mani Padme Hum

  11. Dear Holy Guru, I’ve read this article.

Thank you so much, vajra brother Mat Kinh, for your good writing about the luckiness of being born in human. I agree with you, we are so happy to gain such great chance in this precious life, with eight freedom and ten favorable conditions. We all should utilise this opportunity to practice Dharma under the guidance of Holy Guru on the journey leads to the city of liberation.

Thanks again for your sharing, may your legitimate wishes come true.

May the Holy Guru and his consort have good health and live long for the sake of all sentient beings.

May all sentient beings achieve the happiness of Buddha’s nature.

    Om Mani Padme Hum.

  12. Bishnu Prasad Das says:
    Respected Guru Ji,

One of my so called sister ( Violet) from Hanoi always insist me to read all letters published by Guru regarding DHARMA.  I feel proud for her interest towards Dharma and respect to you. Guru Ji, your articles are very educative  those who are tilting towards Dharma and have some respect to Lord Buddha

.                               Life and Re birth is a very difficult topic and endless debate  can solve it with different opinions / results, though path is different but aim is one. Enlightenment is a word  and it is very important in Buddhism. Life cycle of  soul  from one body to other body is a continues process as our ancient Guru’s said. Body and soul both are working and time comes when body became older or inactive,  Soul tries to leave the body in search of a new body, actually body is facing all  good as well as bad situation….enjoyment, rich, power, ego, misuse of humanity where in other side pain, enemy, poverty, etc.  Mind is like a computer hard disc and operates all activities of body.  Lord Buddha  seen all these at his early age and decided  not to take rebirth…enlightenment is the only path and we should follow the thoughts of Lord Buddha through our Guru ji. Peaceful life and Dharma should lead us for better future.

I pray before Guruji for his valuable articles for the benefit of common man. I salute 100 times for his dedicated life towards Dharma.

With all my regards from India.

    Om Mani Padme Hum
