About the Realms of Demons – Lesson 8: SOME STORIES ABOUT EXORCISE DEMONS (Đó đây chuyện đuổi quỷ)

A Virginia court in a 2011 case sentenced a father for the murder of his two- year- old daughter. According to NBC News, Eder Guzman-Rodriguez beat his daughter to death in an attempt to exorcise demons he believed were possessing her. Arriving at the scene, police saw a man holding a Bible outside the house. Inside, the perpetrator asserted that an evil force came into his body, leading him to punch and strangling the child. The baby’s body was found wrapped in a blanket in the bedroom, where Bibles were scattered throughout.

The father had been sentenced to 21 years for killing his child for exorcism in the United States

It is said that “possession by demons” and stories about violent exorcism have long history, and happen all the time.
The belief that demons can use the human body is one of the most popular religious ideas in the world. The Vatican first issued guidance about the exorcism in 1614, and revised it in 1999. According the According to the Catholic Conference of Catholic Bishops, as cited by Fox News, these are the signs that a person may be “possessed by demons” : exhibiting supernatural powers, spitting, cursing, aversion to holy water, and speaking in languages one does not know.

Those who carry out exorcism always assume they have good purpose in beating one’s possession by demons. Of all cases, children are the most susceptible. Not only are they often weak and hardly able to resit evil forces – sometimes their innocention actions are viewed by doubters and fanatics as being controlled by the evil forces. Their parents and caregivers can find signals that the child possessed by demons. In case above, police took a statement from Guzman-Rodriguez that he saw his daughter gesturing like she wanted to fight with him.
In other cases, fanatics often ascribe bad behaviors to the influence of demons. The idea that “evil forces made me (or someone else) do it”it is almost always in some people’s minds. Of course, the action of beating on the demonic possession isn’t directly on this person, but they believe is “ pushing” the bad part of their body. At the time the person possessed by demons is the temporary conduit of the evils spirits.

Terrible consequences

Throughout history there have been many similar case in United States. A century ago in Ireland it was believed that no only demons but also fairies can borrow the body of a child. Some parents think they are raising a “substitute child”, meaning “fake child” or some kind of spirit. Consequently exorcisms are tried. In the book The Burning of Bridget Cleary by Irish folklife expert Angela Bourke, a 19th century woman was murdered by her husband due to possession by demons. The police record many cases of children which baked on hot coals, drowned, or tortured with terrible implements. For example, in 1828 a woman named Ann Roche drowned a four-year-old boy with intention of exorcising demons out of the child. Unlike Guzman- Rodriguez who was sentenced 21 years in prison, Roche was found not guilty and released.

Even in the modern day, there are still cases of exorcism. In 2003 an 8 year old boy in Milwaukee was found dead after a terrible ritual. In 2005 a young nun was killed after a long, protracted exorcism ritual. In 2010 a 14 year old boy in England was beaten to death by a relative during exorcism.

Although belief in the existence of demons and demons is the one part of humanity, it cannot be denied that it has caused catastrophic and painful consequences throughout the generations.

An article was published in our country, in Thanh Nien newspaper on June 18, 2013, about the trial of a father in the US who killed his children because of demonic possession. Exorcisms of evils is a deep obsession in the minds of many people. In fact people believe blindly in the power of demons to harm human beings. Because they lack knowledge and right understanding , they try to use natural methods to protect themselves from supernatural threats. Time and time again it has passed down through generations.

These are ancient beliefs in countries from East to West.

In addition, it is not unusual to orient a house according to religious beliefs to avoiding bad energy sources or “unwelcome guests” such as ghosts.
Each culture, in Asia and the West, has the different methods when building a house:

1) Leaving the drum (door of the demons)
In Japan, it is said that spirits come from the northeast or kimon (demonic door). It is considered an unlucky direction in the house because demons can enter, steal your family’s fortune, and go out from this direction.

Therefore one should not put a door, kitchen, toilet, bath, or even a basin in this corner. Anything related to fire or water can lead demons into your home from the kimon. People often put wardrobes or hang Sanskrit charms in the northeast corner for protection.

Some even set up a model of Hiji (an ancient building) as protection in the northeast corner. If possible they will leave this area completely empty. Many Japanese believe this will deny evil spirits the opportunity to enter their house.

2. “Escape paths “of Filipino.

In some cultures, in the Philippines, basements and underground rooms are considered as the havens of the demons. The only way you can “solve “ to build an exit area lower house than that room. This is considered a “demon escape”.

Another feature is when building stairs in the house, they often count these steps with “ ora, plata, mata” ( gold, silver, death ) for each step.

If the last ladder step with “ oro”, it means your life will be very good, if with “ plata”, you will have the normally life. If the last step with “mata”, you and someone in your family can face death, because it is death ladder. Therefor, very few stairs are built in odd numbers

3.”Soul house” in Thailand

While many cultures, they try to chase away, or even eradicate the spirits around them, but Thai people build “soul house “for evil spirits

The Thai people say that demonss spirits everywhere around you, so they don’t have the place for staying so they surround and harass you. Therefore, the Thai people have the idea to build a small house that called “soul house”.
It will be build next to the living house,” Soul house “ is the place where souls can stay in it, so it will not bother your life. Thai people believe this is not only way to comfort the souls, and the souls will help to bring the good luck to people in life.

4. Curving roof in Chinese architecture.

Building and designing the suitable roofs is an important part of Chinese architecture. This is not only for architecturally significant, but also for deeply religious meaning.

Chiness’s roofs, especially in royal designs or temples, still have curved shapes designs. According to Buddhism, the soul can only fly in the straight line, don’t like the curved shapes

Curving roof in Chinese architecture

Many people believe that evil spirits will fall off the roof when they meet the curves on the roof, or even when they fly down from the top, they will also bounce back if they hit the curve. Therefore, the Chinese believe that the curved roof will help to drive away the ghosts and keep the evil spirits away from their house.

  1. Dear Holy Guru,

I would like to thank you for your stories relating to demonic possession and the wrong view on this spiritual events.

Such illogical stories of exorcism happened because of the ignorance, the blind faith in superstition, which led to the bad consequences. Depending on the spiritual beliefs of the exorcist, this may be done by causing the entity to swear an oath, performing an elaborate ritual, even some violence can be performed to dispel the demons in the name of a higher power. The practice only is ancient and part of the belief system of many cultures and religions, it has not based on any clear grounds.

In addition, the exorcists have not had any norms to point out the difference between the demonic possession and the symptoms associated with physical or mental illnesses, such as hysteria, mania, psychosis, Tourette’s syndrome, epilepsy, schizophrenia or dissociative identity disorder. How can they perform an exorcism?
